Every year an inmate spends in prison costs taxpayers an average of $22,000. As prisoners get older, the cost of maintenance rises, ultimately reaching an average of $69,000 per year for those over the age of fifty-five. A study by a Stanford University professor estimated that the cost of a life term for an average California prisoner is $1.5 million.

Approximately £20.00 per person per day ....... food ... they average £4.50 a day which as it happens is more than a hospital patient gets a hospital patients averages £2.80 for 3 meals a day. Prisoners have free heating free lighting and free food get to earn money working and get game rooms at our expense all for doing something wrong .......... then when they are released (if) they are given handouts to help them on their way .... assisted with job hunting and assisted with housing ......all at our expense may I add ........ maybe it's just us law abiding citiizens that have actually got it wrong ??
Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear but it's off my chest. xx

Around 30,000 a yr unless they have special medical needs....so around $75 a day. Medical conditions can actually have a large impact on if you even go to jail for certain crimes because it costs them more to house you and take care of you
