Going to Oz for a few months and want to take a large amount of spenders with us. Anyone know if Oz has any restrictions on the import of travellers cheques.

Thanks for the answers so far guys......but what we REALLY need to know is if we were to take AU$10,000 which is the cash limit, would we have to declare travellers cheques as well.
IS THERE A LIMIT ON THE AMOUNT OF TRAVELLERS CHEQUES YOU CAN TAKE INTO THE COUNTRY?????

I don't think there is a limit to the amount of travellers cheques you may take into Oz. I think you must declare them if asked. Last time I went I took £1,500. They like to think you have enough money with you to keep you for the length of time you are staying and travellers cheques are safer and cheaper than using the ATMs. If you do not declare them when asked they are inclined to get tough. Do not mess with the Australian Customs, they have no sense of humour !

Steer clear of Thomas Cook Travellers cheques.. Thomas Cook like to tell you that they are widely accepted but they are not. Wehn I went to Mexico I was stuck with no cash just their TC's. I had to walk the streets of Mexico for about 6 hours trying to find a bank that would change them. Other countries don't like them either.

If you are going to take them take American Express ones which are more widely recognised and accepted...

Many countries charge to convert Travelers Checks. You will be better off using your ATM card because it will give you the best exchange rate based on the moment you use it.

Yes you would need to declare them if you import more than the cash amount.
