My first thought, I must admit, was Borderline Personality Disorder. It was the problem with controlling anger that made me go there. Of course, it is only one symptom out of several that need to be present for that to be an accurate diagnosis.
I have bpd, but also bipolar (heavy on the depression), adhd, anxiety disorders. Anyway, I have problems with rage and controlling angry outbursts...as well as other problems regulating emotions. I also have social anxiety and feel the way you describe when going out...detached. And extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. A few years ago, I realized that when I go places (like the mall, for instance) my senses sort of dull/distort. Things seem darker/dimmer than they actually are. Sounds are muffled. And I become extremely irritable. Just having that awareness of what I was experiencing has helped me, to some degree, to deal with it. It was suggested that I try some grounding techniques when I feel that way, the main one being to just feel my feet in my shoes on the floor. I swear it helps. I don't know which particular disorders causes this disassociation for me and really, the label doesn't matter. The most important thing is to address the individual symptoms you are having.
It is not uncommon for mood disorders, personality disorders, and/or anxiety disorders to co-exist. It is impossible for anyone on here to diagnose you. Even if there were people qualified to do that on here, you would need to give much, much more detailed information.
And for the record, in general, doctors are not quick to dx symptoms as a personality disorder. They certainly are not over-diagnosed and NO, not almost everyone has one. That's complete nonsense.

The central theme in all of your symptoms is exactly how you phrased it: "fear of losing control". You possibly have agoraphobia, manifested by the anger management problems and severe anxiety. Or maybe the agoraphobia has developed from a social anxiety.
Since I don't know you and have only your comments to go on, there may be more to this.
A treatment for anxiety can be first taking an anti-anxiety med to help your brain chemistry settle down and then working with a counselor or therapist who will come to your home to teach you cognitive-behavioral techniques.
One of my clients had OCD and was a checker. She could never pay her bills because she wouldn't be able to seal the envelope and go to a mailbox. Every week we sat at her kitchen table to write checks, put the tear-off and check into the envelope, seal the envelope, add a stamp and return address, and go together to the mailbox and to actually push the envelopes in through the slot to mail them. I gradually weaned her off my presence and cheerleading so she could do this on her own.
A med for anxiety and some classes on anger management would get your on the right track to further solve your problems. Get another opinion, but don't continue to shop around for a therapist. Stick with one that you can put up with and give the treatment a fair chance.
Best wishes!

Dude,
Dont be down about being told you've got a personality disorder it doesnt mean much because nearly everyone has one. The only difference is that some people know theyve got one and other people dont or wont admit they've got one. Sounds like you might be suffering from acute anxiety and panic attacks & poor impulse control which are quite common. I think you would benefit from some anti obsessive medication to help chill you out a bit and maybe some cognitive therapy to help you work out why you feel the way you do. You might be hyper sensitive too. It sounds so boring I know but if you could channel that anger into weight lifting or something it would really help you to destress - exercise is one of the best ways to reduce anxiety and anger because it releases natural feel good chemicals in the brain. My advice would be not to take your shrink's advice personally and to give them the benefit of the doubt, exercise. Also check your diet and get rid of any stimulants like caffeine and alcohol. Try eating healthily for a few weeks and see if your mood improves. Believe me nobody out there is 100% perfect or sane - everyone has some part of their personality that needs work - you're not alone dude. Check the internet for poor impulse control - high sensitivity and panic attacks theres loads of info available. good luck

Are you on or have you been on Medications? Some Medications create those in people as side effects (and they can be permenant),... then the doctors do what they like to do and medicate that and medicate that's meds side effects,... and every side effect you have is you and not a side effect (bad doctors, very bad doctors).
You might want to have your place of living checked for mold and gas leaks,.. people just ignore or don't notice those things and they mess people up.
Lately people have been getting labled Personality Disorder because their Doctors don't want to tell them their main diagnoses (bad doctors). These can be some diagnoses that they know their patient doesn't want to hear or that has a stigmata (like Autism and Schitzophrenia). And given so many people were labled within the same couple months,.. there most be something released recently adviseing some doctors to do this >.<
Added: I suppose past what I said I should say. There are some medications you can take (but some times the side effects is your symptoms get worse). But I think what you need most are trustworthy people and things you don't need to deal with trust with. Maybe go one place to get rid of rage and energy like a Gym/ExerciseClub or an Arcade,.. then go some place where the inhabitents are non-threatening like a Butterfly Pavilian (I can't spell). You know the Butterflies will be choatic but are delicate and not going to hurt you,.. unless you lick them... then you will hurt them and make yourself sick if not kill yourself o.0 Birds can be too distant to watch and animals in a Zoo can get in agressive positions and try to attack you (some are allowed to bother you). It's cold right now though,.. so maybe go visit some pet stores where the animals for adoption are caged with plastic between you and them,... all they can do is try to get your attention.

You should seek a second opinion from another psychiatrist. Personality disorder does seem to fit with your symptoms. It also appears you have a social anxiety disorder as well.
I would seek more professional help right away and get on some medication. There is a myriad of medications that you can use that can greatly help all of your symptoms. The ones you should take would be up to the discretion of whatever doctor is treating you.

xanax is a good for treatment of anxiety. Then there is anger management courses. But most of the time anger and uncontrolled rage are caused by the inability to resolve a stressor, or problem in your life. for example infants and children become upset when they are unable to express what the want, such as food or a toy. But the same goes as for adults where there is more complicated stressors at hand.

I think that your assessment was accurate, you do have a personality disorder, with perhaps a bipolar or schizophrenic tendencies. You would benefit from medication and psychiatric therapy, possibly an in-house stay would help you. The way that you are living your life, is no way to live. You are simply existing, you need to start living. Get the help that you need, and start enjoying life.

You need some serious help. You should go to the nearest teaching hospital, where the attending docs are up on the latest research and medications. They can also refer you to a good psychologist for therapy.

So, you are going to keep searching for a doctor who will tell you what you want to hear? It doesn't work that way. Sounds like you are borderline schizophrenic . You need medication and intense therapy. You can't do one without the other.
