Some would, some would not. I am comfortable having female friends, so I could stick around in that capacity, but I would not remain a boyfriend with such little sex unless I feel her abstinence is for a good reason, or I deeply love her. I must say, though, that the female you speak of may be acting selfish, but that would be from the perspective of the man's needs. Then again, she is within her right to refrain from sex as a means of testing his loyalty, or just in general. But if he leaves her, she very much is at fault for it. She is not obligated to have sex with him, but if he has needs and she will not meet them, what is he to do? Surely she has no right to expect him to suffer a lack of intimacy? Who, in ths relationship, is refusing the sex?

He's playing with you. If you are not committed to each other and yet you consented to sex three times, the guy knows you're good for his sexual relief when he needs it and can't find anyone else. Why should he cut you off totally? It's like having a little gold mine on the side for when he's short of cash! You're deluding yourself. He's "just not into you", just into your availability.

He likes her obviously. Guys are easy. They won't stick around if they don't like you. And the sex (even if it's a little) is always a perk. That could also be a reason.

He would rather continue with someone he likes but isn't in love with than go be alone and have to play the stupid dating game.

I WOULD THINK SO. I DON'T KNOW ANYONE THAT WOULD HANG AROUND FOR 8 MONTHS IF THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE THERE OR WEREN'T INTERESTED IN THAT PERSON.

That sounds more like a booty call than a relationship. I see my mailman every day, but I don't think he likes me like that.
