I work in insurance and definitely know there are some crazy (and stupid) people out there. These answers are all good, I'm going to have to put it to vote.

The year was 1989. Had a drive-in customer who had filed a comp claim on his Vette (someone had keyed both sides of the car -- you'll understand why in a moment). After the estimate was completed we presented him two copies and a check for the amount less his deductible. That's when he came unglued. It seems he had gotten two other estimates from repair shops that were at least 30% higher than ours (neither of which he bothered to show us before we inspected his car), both estimates were loaded with extra charges with 'owner request' clearly written on the item lines. He was also demanding a complete paint job, (really loudly I might add) and finally played the age old "I'm gonna sue all of you!" card and stormed out of the office. After unsuccessfully trying to slam a phneumatic-assisted fire door he then leapt into his car and burned rubber about forty feet through the claims office parking lot. The manager notified our underwriting dept at once and his policy was CANCLED the next morning due to his behavior and reckless driving. We all laughed our a$$es off about this for weeks --- until I opened a newspaper one morning and saw his name plastered on the front page. It seems he shot and killed his upstairs neighbor for playing his stereo too loud the night before. Thinking back, I believe we made him a LOT madder the day we wrote his estimate. Really glad he didn't have a gun in his car.....(gag!)

I had a client once that would go thru his new policy line by line. If there was a difference of .01 up or down in any coverage he would call and start complaining. Even if his premium was cheaper he would complain.

Another yelled at me because he always paid his bills late. He kept saying he was going to switch to another agency. I finally couldn't take it anymore and sent a very nice letter explaining that I would help him out in any way to get his insurance with another agency. About 3 weeks after I sent the letter, he called, apologized and has been a great client ever since.

We had a customer.. the entire office knew him by name.. and it got to the point where the second we knew it was him we put him right through to the manager b/c it was pointless to even try to be rational with him..

to make a long story short.. hed show up at the office all the time demanding money (that he didnt deserve) it got to the point where one day he refused to leave and the police had to respond..

he ended up getting tasered, carted away in an ambulance, and a restraining order put against him.

ahh, insurance claims.

Well, we had a customer from hell who drove us crazy and even drove through two states to our office to plead her case on how hurt she was. She was mean to everyone she spoke to! But that's not really the story. After we finally got rid of her, we heard later that she was suing a fast food restaurant because she claimed she got some food from them, it was very hot, and when she bit into it she "wet herself" and ran off the road into a barrier. Not sure why she felt it was important to mention that she wet herself, but I wasn't surprised to hear that she was making a claim like that.

Retired man, on a fixed income, had an at-fault accident, got his renewal with high insurance premiums. Screamed at me like I was in charge of determining his new rate.

Long story short.....he lost it. Yelling, wagging his finger in my face, coarse language, etc. I got up from my desk, went to the manager's office and refused to deal with him. The manager escorted the client out of the office still yelling.

Customer from hell.

we had a customer (a farmer) get hacked off at the adjuster over a claim - he returned to the office with a dump truck full of manure, dumped it at our front door and we couldn't get out of the office for a while!

I had a gentleman cancel all of his 6 auto policies because he found a company $1 per month cheaper than us.
