There are many types of eagles, some (American Bald Eagle, golden eagle) are protected, others are not. All are considered 'nongame' birds.

Killing a 'nongame' bird that is not protected can get you in trouble. Killing a protected bird can get you in big (federal-sized) trouble.

It also depends somewhat on what you did with the carcass.

I believe you've got three options.

One, call your local fish and game office and tell them what happened. If you had done this at the time the accident occurred, they usually have you fill out a form and turn it in, then someone from their office investigates and a decision is made if there was any criminal activity or negligence involved.

Second option is that since a period of time has elapsed, you can just hope it goes away.

Third option, and I consider it the only option if it was a bald eagle, I would contact a lawyer and ask what you should do. They will usually charge a flat fee of $50 to $100 for a 'phone consultation'.

Are you f ing kidding. You sir are apparently not much of a hunter since an eagle and a dove look nothing alike when flying and are no where close to the same size. Not to mention you would have had to shoot the thing a couple of times to bring it down if you were using the correct load for dove which is #8 shot.

Yeah. It is endangered. Really, really endangered. Some more then others. Be for careful!! If you are an american, i wouldn't say that in public.

Don't report it. There's nothing you can do. Pray to God, do some Hail Mary's

Donate a 100 dollars or something to an Eagle protection company.

Damn dude.... Kill what ever you want - save people and eagles!!!

Ignore all the people bagging on you because I'm sure by now you know you're an idiot. No matter what species or endangered or not, all birds of prey, hawk, falcons, owls, ospreys, eagles, are federally protected, even the possession of a feather requires a permit. So don't ever mention it again, donate to a wildlife fund, go target shooting for a year or three, and leave the beer at home before you go hunting again.

Fist of all, if your eyes are so bad you can't tell the difference between an eagle, and a dove, you shouldn't be hunting in the first place. Second, I think you are just full of crap.

Wow 33 responses to a BS question. If people on the Internet are this, how do I say, stupid, then I see why all of the Internet scams work so well.

I once went hunting bare with a pocketknife. Man was it cold out.

What is going on? Did a bunch of Junior High kids get together and decide to report that they have shot eagles. What are you the third one this week?

How in the world could you mistake an eagle for a dove???? Theres a huge size difference. I would be quiet about it, hope someone doesnt turn you in, then go take a course on different species of birds and their sizes.
