The Boston terrier isn't a true terrier, and is listed in the AKC non-sporting group, not the terrier group..Other terriers are independent, or stubborn.. and many are dog aggressive..
However, a socialized Bostie is very adaptable, and always a fun loving clown..they don't seem to outgrow this fun nature.
To avoid the 'excessive gas!' (Bosties are famous for this) Don't feed a kibble with corn, soy or beet-pulp..Your home will smell much better..lol
Here is a breed info site> http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bostonterrier.htm
there are many great little dogs here..just put in your own zip code to find the ones nearest you> http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Dog&pet.Breed=boston+terrier&pet.Age=Young&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=90001&preview=1&scope=0&x=11&y=12
And happy shopping!

I have my first Boston terrier, Baxter is 16 weeks old & I love him to pieces! I did MAJOR research before deciding on a Boston... they are a wonderful, friendly easy, very smart easy to train breed, all the books will tell you the same. However, the books will NOT tell you that Bostons are difficult to potty train. I am in several online dog groups including dogster.com and bostonlove.org & all the boston owners that I have met thru these groups have told me the same thing, BOSTONS ARE DIFFICULT TO POTTY TRAIN! So, if you decide on a Boston, make sure you have the time & patience to dedicate to the potty training! If you would like some more info feel free to email me, there is one book I found that several of the Bostons in my playgroup have all used & loved, Im @ work right now so I dont have it in front of me. Baxter as well as his siblings are all cuddlers, they would rather sit on laps than play...most bostons are very energetic though. But I would love to answer any other questions.

They are very energetic little dogs that can often be prone to respiratory problems due to those short mugs of theirs. They do tend to snort a lot, but can be great little companions. Be prepared to give this little guy lots of exercise and play time (all terriers need this.) If you want a dog that will just lay by the fire at your feet, this is not the dog for you.

I am a pug-a-holic. I have currently three, and have had a few others over the past 20 or so years. They are simply the best! Can't imagine my world without them. I'm only acquainted with a couple Boston's. Their owners feel the same way about them that I do about my pugs. I don't think you can foul this decision up. Good luck, and congratulations!

I had one growing up. A wonderful dog. They are very intelligent. Also, very territorial. They will bark at the mailman or anyone who comes on your property. They are short hair and don't shed much. They are a terrier so they might have the urge to dig or root around in the yard but ours never really did that.

Very sweet, easy to house train, they love everyone, but are good at warning you of strangers. They will kiss you forever. Paint Peeler farts!
