My son has the stomach flue.Yesterday when he threw up on him self I pit him in the bath to wash him off.when I got him out I noticed small white welts all over him, with in an hour he was lobster red from head to toe and very ichy.I took him to the Dr and he said was an allergic reaction. The thing is I have no Idea what to. He had not eaten anything different ,in fact he had not eaten much at all due to the flue.I was not giving him madication as the vomiting was not that bad. I have not changed anthing in my house such as shampoo or soap, cleaning products, the lotion that I used was the same as always and the pets we have we have had since he was a baby. Any ideas as to what could have caused such a savere reaction. Has anyone had this happen?

Allergies can pop up at any moment. For example someone who wasn't bothered by pollen in their childhood might be bothered by it as a teen or adult.

It's very possible that he's been allergic to something for awhile, but now that he has the flu his body is working hard to fight the illness which means his "guard is down" making him more susceptible to allergies.

You need to take your son to an allergist to find out what he's really allergic to.

I've never had any allergies when I was growing up until now. Earlier this year, I kept having weird allergic reactions and had no idea as to what I was allergic to. At first, I felt my throat was really itchy and it felt as if it were closing up. I would go to sleep and wake up with puffy eyes, I mean, they were almost swollen shut. I tried changing my shampoo, conditioner & detergent and there was no change. I finally went to an allergist and they gave the the allergy scratch test on my back. What they do is they first mark your back with a pen then, wherever the marks are, they scratch your back with an allergin. On my upper back they scratched it with environmental allergins and on my lower back they scratched it with food allergins. I found out that I'm now severely allergic to all grass, walnuts and walnut trees. I'm so allergic to the point where I can get a reaction without even going outside. Grass is everywhere in my neighborhood. My whole body breaks out into hives. Mind you, I was never allergic to any of these things until this year. My allergist said that you can just contract allergies out of nowhere, it's quite common.

Sometimes you just never know.

Good luck!

Welcome to the world of allergies. Unfortunately, one can develop an allergy (even to things that they have never been allergic to before) suddenly.

The only way you can know is to take you son to an allergist and get skin testing done. My daughter had a severe reaction like that when she was 18 months old to an antibiotic. Today she is 17 years old and allergice to 4 different antibiotics, animals, trees, etc. She received allergy shots and her seasonal allergies aren't as bad now as when she was younger.

Hang in there and don't be afraid to get the testing done - it will help in the long run.

It could be an allergic reaction to anything, because your body changes every so many years. So he may have become allergic to something in your household at the time. So you should watch him very closely to see if he has a reaction again and how it could be related to the first reaction.. You should contact your DR and have them referr you to an allergist so they can test him to see specificly what he is allergic to.

My oldest daughter breaks out in hives every once in a while, and I don't change soap, food, laundry etc. Do you have public or well water? I believe that is the route to my daughter s issues we have public and maybe they added something different to it. I just give her some benedryl and 24 hours later she's fine.

Are you sure nobody slipped him a bite or two of something? My son was allergic to purple grapes. When we gave them to him he would get a fever and vomit. I told my dad not to but he forgot and of course it happened again. Even small amounts can cause reactions. Question everybody that was around him and let them know you arent mad, but you need to know if they gave him ANYTHING. My dad told me he didn't but after he though for awhile he remembered giving him 2 grapes.

Many allergies develop from things we have already been exposed to. For whatever reason our bodies just decide they don't like that thing anymore. A specialist should be able to figure out what he is allergic to.
