My 8yr old brother is still peeing in the bed, why? It's a pain in the butt waking up at 3am to change his sheets every night. We tried that no drinking after 7 thing, punishments. For 2 years there was no problems. I feel like he is getting too old for this, what is going on here?

My son is going to be 7 in 2 weeks and he still wets the bed every now and then. They say with boys. It's going to happen. The change in season and if the child has allergies. Or if he is stressd or not getting enough sleep. there are a number of factors. I thought it was laziness but i found if no drinks after 730 going potty before bed and be in bed at 8 and asleep with pj's on by 9 he gets his 8 hours in and so when he has to go he will wake and not be too tired to. He still slips at times only because his dad lets him sneak drinks and stay up later sometimes. But he doesn't care because he doesn't change the sheets. Don't punish him either. It will just make it worse. Also, if he is put on singulair or Zyrtec for allergies if he has them it will help. Then there is always goodnites the night time underware. When I got those for my son he never peed. I thought is was a phsyicological thing. And he never pees when he sleeps over somewhere which I guess is a really good thing good luck!

Bed wetting is caused by 2 major things, the most common reason is the child sleeps so soundly that they cannot feel that they have to go to the bathroom. The solution would be to wake him up after he has been asleep for several hours and take him to the bathroom. The other reason is a traumatic experience now if this hasn't happened and he has been bed wetting for quite a long time then it is the first thing. If taking him to the bathroom in the middle of the night does not solve the problem it is time to see the pediatrician.

It is not his fault. So many children have this problem. My son cannot have certain beverages like anything caffeine or an overload of sugar throughout the day or he will wet the bed. I am not sure what cause it, They are 8 years old it is so embarrassing for them to wet the bed, they don't want to and would stop if they could. We got our son bunk beds and if he wets the bed we move him to the top bunk and change the sheets in the morning. He will grow out of it but maybe not for a few years. Punishment will not help this situation

Punishing and scolding will not help at all. That's just plain mean.

If he was dry for a while and started to wet again at night, you might want to take him to see a counselor after a pediatrian has ruled out urinary infection, diabetes, etc.

At 8 he should be able to take a lot of responsibility for cleaning up. Don't make it a punishment.

Mom and dad might want to get some Goodnites or Pull-Ups or Attends diapers to keep the bed dry until it stops.

Dont say anything to the poor kid. He is probably very embarassed about it, and the more you punish him, or even coment about it, the longer he'll do it. My son went through the same thing. His dr. told me to be quiet about it, try to change his sheets, if you can, without him knowing it, and he will eventually stop. Guess what? Within 1 week, he never wet the bed again. I hope you try this, I think it'll work.

Has he seen a doctor to rule out a physical cause? Whatever the reason, please don't "blame" him or make fun of him. No one pees the bed on purpose. Some children have a problem with wetting the bed up until late teen years.

You should make sure he goes to the bathroom before bed. Bed wetting is also a sign of the child being stressed. Try having him hold it when he has to go, instead of just going, to make his bladder bigger. Good Luck.

Normal for children to go through ponishing a child for doing something that he has no control over it just makes it worst so what ever you do it in a kindly manner and dont miss treat him for this is not his fault

Bed wetting, in a child who is not usually a bed wetter can be a sign of sexual abuse. Its one of the most common indicators. Im NOT saying thats the case, but you should be aware of that as a possible cause.
