The kids and I make Christmas wreaths every year for free! They make great gifts and no one can ever guess how you've done it. You need:
a wire coathanger
a few of the green rubbish bags that youare supposed to use for garden waste. (Not too heavy a grade, just normal bin bag thickness)
Some of the smaller decorations from last year that you won't be using because they are broken or the hangers have come off, waste parcel ribbon, anything festive.
Some spray glue, spray snow, gold or silver spray and glitter.
First, bend the coathanger into a circle as well as you can. Leave the hook on as you will use this for hanging the wreath.
unfold the binbags anf lay them flat, several on top of each other so that you can cut them up all at once. Cut them into strips approx 4.5 inches -5 inches long by about 2-2.5 inches wide.
Separate the strips, (rub them together between your fingers) Now simply tie them onto the wire hoop Use a simple knot and make sure that half of the strip stick sout at each side. Spread out the strip at each side of the knot. When you have tied a few onto the hoop., push them together as closely as possible. This looks a bit odd at first but it starts to look better as you carry on.
When the hoop is full, you have your basic wreath, now use your imagination to decorate it Hang it up on the washing line outside and give it a frosting of gold or silver paint, add ribbons, bows bells, anything else you like. Ribbon wrapppedaround the wreath looks particularly good. If you want to add glitter, this is an easy way to do it without making a mess: Empty the glitter into a large, plastic carrier bag, spray the wreath with glue or dab glue onto the bits you want to be glittery. Put the wreath in the bag, hold it closed at the neck and shake. The glitter will stick to the gluey bits and you can easily salvage what's left.
If you have some of those scissors which cut with a crinkly edge, these give a 'holly' look to the wreath if you cut the bags with them.
If you want a 'fairy' type effect (little girls love these) Use white or transparent bags and spray with pastel colours.
Have fun! What a great question, I've got loads of ideas from other people suggestions, thanks for asking it.

I'm not sure what it is you're trying to make - but a few things that I've done before are recycle old Christmas cards and mount them for decoration by edging the front and gluing onto red or green background paper. Of course, the construction paper red and green chain links are a classic. The popcorn strings, If you have a decorative bowl - you can put high quality red apples and mix with some springs of pine. You could even try throwing in a few whole walnuts in the shells. You can use old ovaltine containers and glue on felt and other materials to make drums. I guess it depends on if you want totally classy Christmas crafts that are time consuming or simple, easy ones that even young kids can do. I'm more of the queen of the easy ones so I hope this helps. You can take any kind of red, green gold or Christmas cloth even from an old Christmas table cloth. If the fabric is heavy enough and you have a sewing machine you could make really nice placemats. You can always laminate children's Christmas drawings onto placemats or use those recycled Christmas cards or your own art. If you have pom poms and pipe cleaners, some glue and little eyes you can make candy cane toppers and hang them around, on presents or on the tree. You can use peanuts and make little elves with some felt pom poms and little eyes. Pom pom snowmen out of yarn are easy to do too. You could take old fabric, stuff it and make pillows using some fabric glue if you like to decorate. It all depends on what you've got around the house. Shiny Christmas ornament balls in a fancy bowl are always classy.

Christmas ornaments are easy.. the possibilities are endless!!!!!
If you already have a christmas tree you can cut some branches and use the fresh greens to make so many different things , from onaments to center pieces for the table, candle rings and wreaths. Pine cones and berries are great to decorate any of the above. Another Idea if you are making it a gift is to print out some pictures of you and your dad over the years and decopage
them on a glass or ceramic onament. All you do is mix some clear glue and a little water and brush the mixture over the pictures .. and then you can put a clear coating over the top if you want. Also , holiday decorated bird houses are nice too.. like I said the possibilities are endless.. have fun with it.

Do you need a gift for your father? If you want something as a gift that is also decorative, you could try a photo collage. Pick photos that you can cut and glue without it being a problem, gather 2 pieces of flat cardboard (like a folder), a frame, scissors, glue stick. Arrange the pics on the cardboard and lightly trace around them, then cut the openings out. This is the front. Place pics on the back piece, make sure they show thru the openings, and glue them in place with glue stick. Position front cardboard and glue lightly at corners. Decorate and place in the frame. Or you can make an ornament with the pics, by making a small square, about 3x3, and gluing the pics to it. Attach a shiny ribbon to hang from the tree. A rice bag can be nice, easy and quick. Take a clean tube sock, fill about 2/3 with uncooked rice and sew the top shut. You can heat this in the microwave for one to two minutes, and it feels great on sore muscles, or at the foot of a cold bed. You can freeze it too, to put on sprains, or under your pillow when it's sweltering.

Well, if you have some actual cloth napkins lying around that you never, ever will use in a million years (I'd ask first just to be safe cuz parents really don't like it when you use two out of five napkins and they don't have a complete set anymore), you could make a little throw pillow (possibly sow in something reminiscent of a Christmas tree). Or make ornaments out of old Christmas cards. Or write him a poem if that is something you can do. Make his favorite cookies (baking supplies are ALWAYS around the house).
It really depends on what your dad is into. Maybe do something that has nothing at all to do with Christmas. Those of us with birthdays near Christmas really like it when you not only celebrate the holiday and the reason for the holiday, but also make the day special and unique to us as well.
