A valid drivers license will probably be okay but "their" insurance would have to cover "your vehicle" if the license tag is still valid The pound operator or the police can tell you what all is involved. Here in Ontario Canada it is possible to apply for a Trip Permit that is valid for 10 days but you still have to provide proof of insurance even if it only covers that 10 day period. The laws vary according to the area/country in which you live.

Shhh! Here's a little trick I once used in the same situation. I hired a tow truck operator to come with me & a licensed friend & pick the car up at the pound. I got him to tow it to a Mall parking lot a few blocks away & drop it there at which point my friend drove it home. Cost me fifty bucks & we didn't get caught!! But if you get caught it'll be costly. Shhh! It's our little secret! Good Luck. You didn't get it from me........

I think you are going to need to provide driver license, proof of insurance, registration and plates. I would call the impound yard to find out what you need.

You're still going to need to present the title and proof of insurance for your car.

Talk to your insurance agent and have the car put back on your insurance, get a note from them, then take the note and your title, and go get your car back.

You dropped the Ins. because the car was gone for so long. You cannot drive the car with put Ins. Not even if you are with another person who has Ins. You should be able to get it towed to your perfered location if you provide the other required documents but dont even think about trying to drive it.
