I can't believe mose of these people. I see what you mean totally. The Health section is here for people to ask questions and see if someone has had similar problems or symptoms and ask how they handled it. If they don't know the answer or don't know what you're talking about, then just don't answer the question...then again, that rule could be used in all these categories.
Thats like someone posing a question worried about something and they say they have a rash or poison ivy or etc and a lot of people can tell you what to do about it. you dont have to go to a doctor for that. Its ridiculous.
And for those of you above talking about what if it was life threatening....seriously? I dont see questions like, "all my hair is falling out, could I have cancer?" or "my head is gushing blood after getting hit by the car, what should i do?"
...anyway, I agree with you. It's like these all over Yahoo Answers, you just have to ignore a lot of people.

I see how that could be annoying. But, imagine for a second a doctor was looking through here. The LAST thing they would do is is offer advice other than 'ask a doctor'.
Many questions are asking things like " I have this symptom, what should I do?" If you want to commiserate over shared symptoms, that is fine too. Simply overlook some answers.

Yes I agree. Sometimes a little bit of advice from some people that experienced similar symptoms as you can make you feel a little bit at ease and give you some insight to what they went through. Most of the time those are the people that can't help you and feel they have helped by telling you to see a doctor. But there are some medical questions that would involve a physical examination in order to be helped and that's something that no one on here can help out with.

No, it does not annoy me at all. I work in the medical field, yet in an office capacity. Whenever I see this given as an answer, it is usually for good reason.
Well, I have read all the answers up to Sononobir, but don't know if mine will show up before more post, but all of them, with the exception of Oprah's are certainly valid and well put. If you don't want or other people don't want this given as an answer, maybe you & they should post along with the question that this is not an acceptable answer & if this is all you have to give, please don't give it. Just explain that you already know that you should and will be seeing a doctor in the very near future & so it is not necessary for anyone to waste their time typing this. Ask for any info on the subject & personal experience concerning your problem, that's all.

I am one of these people that say consult your doctor
There are some things that can be answered in the health section like how much of this vitamin do I need or I Sprained my ankle what should I do?
But there are serious conditions that can arise that have similar symptoms and with out proper diagnosis or a prescription damage or death can be a result. No one can give a proper diagnosis or prescribe medication over Yahoo Answers
I am disturbed by the amount of girls that ask could i be pregnant "Yes sweety if you had sex you could be pregnant"
And I think the person who is rating against all the people that disagree is being foolish

Sometimes that IS the appropriate answer. So many people ask questions that are really urgent or involve a sick baby or child and the doctor has to be called. The scary thing is that they've taken the time to post something that is really an emergency, on here.

I don't get annoyed. I think if someone can share some insight into the problem he/she should. Some people don't have ready access to a doc (No insurance, etc) and are asking for our help and we can help as best we can however, if it could potentially be a serious problem with infection or something that could develop into some other problem, the advice to consult with a doctor if valid.

For anything other than serious health concerns, I enjoy reading the folk remedies or alternative medicine ideas. Surely, most folks know when to see a professional.
Heck, doctors can't cure everything. Actually, they take care of the symptoms, for job security. LOL
Think about it, do most of the drugs today cure problems? high blood pressure, cholestrol, etc?? no, but it sure does give you better numbers!
There are natural cures for most all illnesses. Too bad we have gotten away from that.

you have a point. sometimes people are looking for advice from people who had similar ailments or experiences and it can be reassuring before to see a MD. however some people ask questions that seem to indicate that they should have seen a doctor since long and it is worrying and answerers may be right to advise a doctor.
