Last time I checked, that was not his name. So you would not be using the lord's name in vain. But you would be breaking the rule against not letting an corrupt or profane speech come out of your mouth. (Ephesians 4:29). So it is still a sin.

Evelyn Waugh writes the classic story of an adult reading the Bible for the first time, in his case, Randolph Churchill, son of Winston. From a November 1944 letter to Nancy Mitford:

In the hope of keeping him quiet for a few hours Freddy & I have bet Randolph 20[pounds sterling] that he cannot read the whole Bible in a fortnight. It would have been worth it at the price. Unhappily it has not had the result we hoped. He has never read any of it before and is hideously excited; keeps reading quotations aloud `I say I bet you didn't know this came in the Bible "bring down my grey hairs in sorrow to the grave'" or merely slapping his side & chortling `God, isn't God a sh*t!'

---

Since god is a sh*t, apparently yes.

You're using the Lord's name if you say God, Lord, or Jesus. Holy is not a name of the Lord.

People who say that are not usually trying to offend God. It's far from their minds and what has caused them to say it is predominantly in their thoughts at that moment. It's an expression that they're totally in shock about something. I leave it up to God to judge another and won't pressume to know that God wants me grabbing someone by the ear at any time thinking I know His time for tolerance has past. If I wish to be impatient with others, who's to say that same impatience isn't warranted with myself? There could be countless things I've done yet no one can judge me but God, so again, I leave it in His hands.

Not really. It just shows a paucity of vocabulary and a woeful lack of understanding of the meaning of "holy."

You are still swearing, because only God is Holy and we should not call s**t holy.

Given that "god" is sh!t, one could say yes but one could also say no.

All the really matters is, "Does saying it piss off a godbot who hears it?"

If it does, say it loud!
