Cats are probably subject to many of the same conditions humans suffer from. My older cat can turn on a dime. One minute he'll be very loving to my kitten, grooming her and cuddling her and then the next minute he'll sit back and smack her in the head. Sounds a bit bipolar to me.

Cats aren't as devloped as humans, so they run very much on emotions and moods. Saying someone is bipolar implies the moods are making the person not functional... but for a cat moodiness is typical.

Yup. They can have most of the conditions that a human can. One of the things that they can't get is AIDS though. But back to the original question yes cats can be bipolar.

I don't know if a cat could actually be diagnosed as bipolar, but with their flippant attitudes they can definitely seem that way!

Hmm...interesting question. Maybe that explains why my cat will hide for weeks and then be playful for weeks....
Cats are treated for anxiety and depression, so maybe they could be Bipolar.
Oh yeah, cats can have FIV which is a feline form of HIV...

My Little Tom is. He can be needy, loveable, downright annoying with his demands for affection. Yet, he gets in these moods when he will not want to be touched, knock over our drinking glasses (with water in them), climb on the table/counter, bite the back of my legs to get my attention, and be a real jerk!

I dont think they can be. They can however have emotional problems like depression or anxiety in which they can take behavioral medicines for.
