Perhaps someone can help me out. Last month I noticed that I had some 25 premium rate calls, all for under 5p. I contacted my supplier and asked them why as we had not made them, they say that they definately came from my number and that bt have a maximum of 5p on these calls, there are only two of us living here. After some thought I feel it must be a site I am connecting to on the internet, but I don't know which one. I kept a check on times I signed in to different sites, but they don't tally with the latest bill of which their were nine calls.
The number that dials up is 08444622020 and it has premium rate G9.

Has anyone come up with this and found an answer?. I can be thankful that it's not the high premium rate.

Have you purchased anything like an internet phone by Amstrad?
With many of these "gadgety" phones, they sell them cheep and they have features such as caller display, which are good for the price even if you don't use the internet and e-mail features, but in the small print they specify that the phone will connect each day to check if you have recieved any e-mails etc. and the 5p calls sound like something like this.
Some other electrical equipment such as sky boxes can be connected to the phone line and it is worth checking.

If these things haven't helped, try changing settings on your pc to prevent access to the internet without your say so, its not hard to work out, just read all the options in internet options and check out your firewall to make sure no programs that you are not sure of have full outbound access to the internet. Alternatively, disconnect your internet connection while you are not using it (or turn off your router if you have a wireless setup).

If the calls continue to show on bills, then either BT is overcharging you, or someone else in the house is making calls that you don't know about.

Last time I received my phone bill BT had charged me for 62 calls to a premium rate number and I know I'd only made about 3. I never complained 'cos I knew it would be of no use. BT make enough profits so why the need for this.

I checked your no. on Icstis, a service that can check prem no's, I've put the link below as it cancome in handy.

This is what I know about the number you entered (08444622020).

I can can tell you the following.
This is classified as a Special Services basic rate: up to and including 5p for BT customers (non-internet) number.
It is provided by Connect Telecom UK Ltd.
And costs 2ppm [in pence or pounds where 'pm' means 'per minute' and 'pc' means 'per call'].

Do you have children who could be phoning to get ringtones. Also if you have an Amstrad E-mailer it regularly phones premium rate numbers to up date its self. Or do you have sky as the box phones premium rate numbers when you press certian features, such as games, votting, etc.

As you didn't mention who your serivce provider is I can only assume you are with BT.

Unless you are an engineer and know how to tap into the green box at the end of your street it is impossible for a call to be made from your number without dialing it yourself.

Also BT offer a call barring service that will block 09 number from being called from your phone for free. Or you can have a Barring service that only allows normal 01 and 02 numbers and that is £1.75 a month.

If you find that you have many 09 numbers appearing on your phone bill go to this site http://www.icstis.org.uk/ and you can see what they are for.

I work for a SP and when customers call saying that no one ever phones 09 numbers I put the number into that website and then you find out that the children have been phoning competition lines or even sex lines.

Hope this helps

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.
