Ok, so my 2 year old will be 3 in April and before she can go into Preschool, she has to be able to go to the potty by herself with no pull-ups. How did you get your young one to go to the potty? I have heard ideas of buying her panties and putting her in those and telling her that she needs to go potty and not wet the panties, but does that really work, or am I just going to have a big mess to clean up? All ideas are helpful and NO perverted or stupid ideas. Thanks.

OK. MY DAUGHTER IS THREE AND WAS POTTY TRAINED BY HER SECOND BIRTHDAY. PUT HER TRAING POTTY IN THE BATHROOM NEXT TO YOURS. THEN EVERYTIME YOU GO TO THE BATHROOM. CHEERFULLY SAY, "OK (CHID'S NAME) I'M GOING TO THE POTTY. THEN SHE'LL FOLLOW ALONG AND SIT ON HER POTTY TOO. THAT'S HOW MY DAUGHTER LEARNED AND IT HAPPENED QUICK. SHE ALSO CALLS HER TOILET PAPER STICKY TAPE.

Get your child used to the potty, allow her to see you using the toilet. This will make the child aware of what she is supposed to do. First of all invest in some pull-ups, then be prepared for some accidents at first. Make a note of what time your child dirties her nappy - this way you can plan ahead and let your child use the potty when it is time. Or when you know your child has had a drink and soon will need the toilet.
Initially get your child just used to the potty, allowing her to sit on it - even when she doen't need to go! Introduce a sticker chart, and give a sticker or smiley face each time she goes on the potty and does her business!
When she has reached a set target of smiley faces or stickers - take her out on the weekend or treat her to something and let her know what she has done to earn this, it doesn't need to be anything expensive, it could be simple things like doing an activity that your child enjoys or spending time together, visiting the park, etc...

Try to get your child potty trained during the day and then you can tackle the nights! Speak to your healthvisitor for further advice.

Good Luck!

I started putting my little one on the potty every hour, and letting her watch me potty. She caught on pretty quick, though accidents were still common. When shes does use the potty, make it a big deal for her and show her what an extra good girl she is. I did buy my daughter panties and she LOVED going out to get them, and didn't like the idea of peeing in her panties. That did work for me, but it did NOT work for my sister...she let her daughter run around bottomless--only then did her daughter go. It's all individualized for kids. Be patient, be kind, be supportive, and she'll get it in her own time...don't rush her!

Well its a tough one, if your daughter is a child that hates the feel of peeing herself panties will work, the problem with pullups and such is that they don't feel wet or that soggy yuck feeling.. another thing that worked for my daugther is when she peed herself i would put her in the tub and use almost cold water to clean her up each time, (not a full bath) just let the tap run tepid water and clean her bottom half with a cloth.. she hated the cold water washing and stopped immediately peeing her pants.. and i also got a singing potty , (everytime they peed it sang a song) and that helped too

well ive never had girls as i have four boys lol BUT ive heard girls are easier to potty train then boys, so you might be in luck :) lol ummm with all four of our boys i threw out all the pampers and pull ups. They just confuse kids. i took them to wal-mart let them pick out a few nice packs of underwear that they wanted...any ones they wanted. Then we got home and i put them on them and told them they couldnt go potty in them or they would wreck them! They didnt want this to happen. Of course accidents are going to happen. But kids are more careful when they feel like they have the control! So make sure you tell her everytime she feels like she needs to use the potty to come and tell you. When she GOES give her a small snack a little piece of candy until she gets the hang of it :) then when she has an accident tell her she cannot do that and make her change asap dont smile dont tell her its okay. Make yourself seem dissapointed even though thats tough :( but it DOES work......and if all else fails, follow the dr. phil way....buy a doll that pees lol and have your daughter show her where to use the potty, and after awhile ask your daughter to show her how to go on the potty. Make sure you stick with the big potty, dont buy potty chairs, or it will back fire!!! And make sure at night you DONT put on pull ups. Put plastic under her bed to protect the mattress, i used a tarp lol. but it works and you will be doing alot of laundry but she will catch on real fast you will see :) GOODLUCK!!!!

forgot to add- everytime you go to the bathroom take her with you. and make sure the first day you put her in her big girl underwear you put her on the potty every 15-20 mins until she goes so she knows what shes suppost to do lol i know that gets to be a headach but it works and when she goes the first time get excited!

I use to have my son in the bathroom watching me use the potty. I would play games like hurricane in the potty or a storm is coming in the potty or stupid daddy stuff that would get my son to laughing with me and would make him more confortable in pottying. Most kids aren't confortable infront of someone else pottying so you must do your best to make it fun for them. Make it a game, have prizes, candy, anything that a grown Man...uha errr little person would like or like doing as they are using the potty. I hope this helps.

I trained both my girls by continually taking them to the potty every 20 minutes or so. I had to make a really big deal when they sat down and I really made it a point to let them know that they were big girls and not babies. You can put them into panties, however, it could get messy. You just have to make a big deal about it, continuos effort, and try and make it fun for them. Good luck!

Honestly? You can't force her. The more you force the issue, the worse it will be. I have a boy, it took FOREVER for him to be fully potty trained. He voluntarily went potty on his own at just over 2 yrs old. After that we pushed him too hard, and we payed for it. In the end, we let him decide for himself when he was ready to go on the potty. He was fully potty trained at just over 4 yrs old. Boys are harder than girls to potty train, but if you have a kid that is as stubborn as mine is.....let her be ready!

Please don't try to force her. Make it a fun thing to do and to be proud of. Maybe she just isn't ready and you could wait a little longer. I think to many people try to potty train to early. After all, she has only been on this earth for 2 years and is learning so many new things. Let her watch you and be matter of fact about it. Good Luck.

I WOULD PUT HER POTTY IN THE AREA THAT SHE WAS PLAYING IN OR SPENDING THE MOST TIME IN THAT WAY SHE WAS ABLE TO REACH IT QUICKLY. ALSO, I LET HER PICK OUT HER OWN PANTIES AT THE STORE AND WOULD LET HER WEAR THEM WHEN SHE WANTED TO. YA, I HAD A FEW MESSES TO CLEAN UP, BUT SHE REALLY LIKED THEM AND FOR ME IT SEEMED TO HELP.

I heard them discussing this on The View and for boys you can put cheerios or something else in the toilet so the boys can have fun shooting a target, for girls: chocolate. Or you could give her some other treat each time she goes. Even some coins for her piggy bank or something. Some might say that's bribing, but if it works it works!
