The shot appears in "My Pictures" as a still shot and is just great, but when I try to do anything else I can't because, of course, the 'movie' is too big to send or manipulate. Is there a way to recover the frame that appears in the file and delete the 'movie?'

Any of the common movie editing programs will let you isolate one frame at a time and save it separate from other movie clips. Then use a free program like you download from www.irfanview.com to enlarge, modify or crop that one frame.

The image you see in "My Pictures" is a tag or preview generated by windows. As far as I know, you would need a frame grabber software that is compatible with the movie format from you camera. You may need to do a search to see which software fits the bill. Another thought is that the resolution is much smaller than your picture setting and you many not be happy with the final result.

Pause the movie on the frame you want and use a program like Photoshop to do a "screencapture". It'll take a large picture what's on the screen and you can edit it to your liking.
