I will be going back for a 2nd trip next summer. Its not so badm unless you are an MP, Infantry, in a Field Artillery unit, where your primary job is patroling the streets and maintaining vehicle checkpoints. If your in combat support or and Admin type job, which makes up 80percent of the Army, life isnt that bad there. Youve got Burger King and Popeyes, there are gyms to work out in, great recreational things to take your mind off and plenty of interesting things to see and do.. Its only bad if you cant mentally and emtionally handle it.

I was in Baghdad as a civilian for 12 months. All I can say is that it is dangerous but the morale of every soldier I met was high. I also spent time in Taji, Tirkit and Kirkuk. Of the 3, Tikrit was the most dangerous.

I wish your brother in law the best.
