I've been to several overseas bases (before I comissioned). The best in my opinion was Aviano Air Base. The location is good and the Italian people are awesome. Ramstein was good as well, though there was more culture shock there since the Germans come from a VERY different cultural behaviorism set than Americans. Least favorite of mine were the bases in England that I went to... they were generally cold (even during the summer) and personally the country seemed kind of gray to me

Elmendorf in Alaska is considered an overseas assignment and I absolutely loved it there. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live there and experience the beauty and diversity. I have friends that hated Italy, Spain and Turkey. My uncle was stationed in England and they really liked that, but in the end it is all up to the gov.
