Say we believe in prayers and their power. If 2 people pray for contradictory things and the will and passion that goes behind the prayer as well as the need for its fulfilment is equal in both the persons, whose prayer will be fulfilled?

which ever is according to God's will. God answers prayer, just sometimes the answer is no.

Intercessory prayer is aimed at doing God's will. It is not for the purpose of God doing our will, whim or desire. As human beings, we are imperfect. So it is very likely to have even contradictory prayers like that. If they are both seeking God's will, then both prayers will be answered. One may receive a "yes" and the other a "no". A "no" from God is a legitimate answer. Hope this helps, good question.

Prayer doesn't get answered unless the prayer is a request that isn't away from Godly principles or just plain world in nature. For example, if you pray to win the lottery, more than likely that prayer won't be answered because it's a selfish prayer for material things.

That said, both prayers could conceivably be answered. Sometimes God makes us wait for things we want, and when that is the case, one of two things can happen:
1) The person grows spiritually stronger, and doesn't want what he prayed for to begin with. An example of this would be praying to marry someone who isn't the right person for you, and you realize it later.
2) Both prayers are answered, but at different times. Say one person is praying a certain political candidate will be elected, and another Christian is praying for another candidate to be elected. It's conceivable that they could both be elected, but to different offices, or at different times in the same office.

Walking with God changes our desires. When a Christian is immature, they often desire things of the world; but as they get closer to God the desire becomes more of a spiritual nature and less selfish. Garth Brooks said it perfectly when he said in one of his songs, "Thank God for unanswered prayer". God knows what's best for us, even when we don't.

Be blessed.

How can there be a contradictory prayer if prayers are positive? Just for example:"father in the heavens, let thy kingdom come.." rather than, "father in the heavens, let NOT thy kingdom come".

Also, it is selfish on behalf of ourselves to ask of certain things like: God, please get me a new car.James. 4:3: “You do ask, and yet you do not receive, because you are asking for a wrong purpose, that you may expend it upon your cravings for sensual pleasure.” Rather, ask for strength and endurance to keep your faith strong, and it shall be recieved...i hope the point is understandable :)

Mattehw 6:33 says:33 “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to you" So keep spiritual things first in prayer, and God will take care of the rest...but with must serve him with spirit and truth :)

Hope it helps :)

God's will is what will be fulfilled. The prayers must be in alignment of his word. What is best for us is not always what we want. Go to his word and be sure the prayers are with a pure heart and good intentions... God Bless!

I don't think prayers are like spells, you can't manipulate powers by thought in a metaphysical way. They shall be having BEEN first bound in heaven. So this means it's grace and your prayers are interpreted from your heart by the holy spirit. So you might pray for an apple and get an apple tree.

Prayer has no power other than that it connects us to God, who is ultimately powerful. God is a person, with thoughts and feelings, therefore He can and will decide whose prayer to answer-if either.

God is the creator not the do'er. He is meant to 'watch' your life to ensure that your 'afterlife' has a good path.
Your prayers will remain not answered for you are responsible for destiny, how and what you do will lead to your afterlife, dependant on those dicisions.
If god answered some (if not all prayers), we would all be rich, no one would work, love thy neighbour etc etc. What a boring life, that would be...
As I have made various decisions in my life and judgements good and bad, I forsee my personal afterlife as something in line with a dog or cat ;)
See you up there!! or down there :(

Well God has to decide which prayer will benefit people the most, I believe He has a will for everyone. Thats why we pray 'thy will be done' in the Lords prayer, because it isn't up to us, it's up to Him.

The only prayers that are answered are the ones in which you have the power to change within yourself. You cannot pray for external things (well, you can, but you're wasting your time if you do.)

God will do the right thing. Prayer IS powerful but sometimes the answer is no. Instead of asking God to do a certain thing for us we should ask him to do for us what is right.
