In Ojibwe language there isn't a word for just grandmother. You have to say....

My gramma - Nookomis
Your gramma - Gookomis
His/her gramma - Ookomisan

If you've ever watched Grizzley Adams, the Native dude on there was called Nokomis, which really meant my gramma LOL.

From S'Klallam Language(which I am a proud member of)

Grandparent (slight dilect difference for grandmother): síyə
Which is pronounced: say-ah
Some people spell it: Seya

There is a really good childrens book called Seya's Song. The grandchild in the book was actually inspired by my cousin :)

From the people I talk to...it's not too highly looked on to just hand out words too much..

But... For the D/N/Lakota (Sioux), as far as I know, grandmother is Unci (uhn-chee).

In Cherokee... Grandmother - U li si This is the phonetic spelling I can't put it here in the Cherokee "font" When reading a Cherokee word written phonetically, remember these pronunciations: A ( as in ‘father’) E (an ‘a’ sound, as in ‘way’) I (an ‘e’ sound, as in ‘bee’) O (as in ‘oh’) U (as in ‘ooh’) V (sounds like ‘uh’) Ts makes a ‘j’ sound
