we have health insurance but it doesn't cover dental. my dentist knows that and he said "bring him in when you come next time, if you would like." he was 18 months at the time. my dentist also said that there isn't much that they can do for their teeth in the first place. they can add a flouride coating $$$$ if you are really concerned. yup. they will brush their teeth if you can keep their mouth open long enough and they they will charge you for the visit like any other patient. or if you take your child in during your visit, you now have to occupy a 2 year old while you're stuck in a chair with your mouth open.
so, reality - wait until they are old enough to understand how to sit still, not bite and to begin to learn the concept of hygeine. my dentist said we might as well wait until about 3.
in my opinion, any dentist who says earlier is just trying to make more money or is using the worries you have about your child to make sure you get your 6 month checkup.

Now's a good time. They'll just count her teeth and brush them, but it's a great way to get her used to going and not be afraid. My dentist recommended "playing dentist" before her first visit to get her used to opening her mouth. We used a straw and I had her open her mouth so that I could tap each tooth and count them. She loved it and there were no tears at the dentist office!

It used to be recommended that you take your child for his/her first dentist visit by 3 years old. They changed it in the last year to start at 1 year. The reason being that you introduce your child to bacteria that needs to be checked/cleaned even through the first year. We do this by cleaning off binkis (with our mouth), bottles (same as binkis), and sharing silverwear while we eat. So you should probably make an appointment asap if you can.

Any child or toddler should have or needs to be taken to a pediatric dentist no more then 6 months after getting their first tooth. FIND A PEDIATRIC DENTIST IN YOUR AREA.

I am not sure where abouts you are from but here on the UK (Scotland) you normally take them from 6 months or when they get there first teeth and they get a check up every 6 months just to check on there teeth or you can make an appointment if you think there is something wrong with there teeth.

I think a child is supposed to see a dentist as early as age one simply because a lot of people let their child suck bottles at night and they could get bottle rot.
You need to find a pediatric dentist and make an appointment soon.
Another thing if you give your child fruit snacks please stop because they cause major cavities and I found that out and I stopped buying them.
