The answers here show the great ignorance and prejudice of Americans. We only repeat what we hear, without looking for the facts.
I will agree with last_defender's comments. It all depends. Many come here looking for a green card, many search an American for the money. These are the "marry him, and divorce him after the required 3 year period" people (yes, a woman coming here on a fiance or spouse visa must stay married for 3 years or be deported).
However, many come for a "better life" and the attitude "I will learn to love him". This is not so outrageous, and these marriages often work since it is cultural to learn to love a mate this way in many older cultures (including Asia and India).
And, there is the majority group which is honest, professionals who really want a loving husband, instead of an abusive drunkard. There are many many successful marriages in America, England, and Australia that are out of Russia heritage.
Being married to one, and knowing many men who are, I find that Russian women are some of the most loving and devoted women alive. Kind of like 1950's USA. Good housekeepers, they prefer a division of gender roles, and respect and honor those who respect them. Very intelligent too. Most are professionals - doctors, lawyers, etc.

I think it all depends, some are looking for a special someone, others a green card. I also know that some of the web sites are scams so watch out. One of my patients was caring on a conversation and sending her money for airfare. Something always seems to come up keeping her in Russia, and she always needs just a few more dollars to bribe someone for a passport, or some such. Just be very very careful.

No better and no worse than http://match.com I think. We have a famly friend who is Russian. She married a British man not by mail order, but because she met him while in the UK on business (she is a translator in the travel agency business). Both are in their late 40s, neither ever married before.
She says that all Russian men are arrogant drunks. I wouldn't know. He has no particular compllaint about English women except he never met one he could love.

I not say you may not find a good woman. But, be real careful on this approach. You can get scammed out of money real fast.

There is a documentary floating around that shows they make fun of the aging, balding, fat American men and say, "The last time he saw a vagina he was crawling out of one".
They do it for the money and to become an American citizen.
