I have a 10 year old son who is preparing for his Taekwon do Black belt test. He's not too worried about the patterns or sparing part but is very worried about the written test (he hasn't even done many non multiple choice tests at school). Is there somewhere that I could find a sample test so he would have some idea what to expect?

Just to let you know he's been working really hard at this for the past 5 years...so no it wasn't easy for him to get to this level. He's also done well at the tournments he's been in even winning patterns at a north american one where he competed with people much older than him at the red belt level. So I think it is probably legitimate that he at least be allowed to try for his black belt.
His school is ITF by the way.

For JA2...yes he can pretty much do all that. He hasn't broken a house brick yet...but he has done 3 3/4 inch boards. Every time he tests he has to do all his patterns right from the white belt ones up. As for teaching a class...he regularly teaches the kids class for green belt and below. He's been practicing for the fitness test and so far can do the run in about 15 min. He has no problem with the 50 push ups and 50 crunches and can do 34 of the suicide runs in the 2 min. allowed (bear in mind that when he does these he has to take about 8 steps for the others 3)
Also ... it should be noted that neither he or I were pushing for him to do the black belt test...he was invited to test by a 7th degree black belt. So he does consider it an honour that he's been asked to test.
In short he's done the work...he takes it more seriously than some of the 20 year olds he trains with. Other than the written exam he feels pretty prepared.

I don't think looking for a practice exam is in anyway "cheating" . If you look around there are entire books on how to write the SATS...is that cheating? What about the prep courses for the MCAT or LSAT? are these cheating. All I was doing was looking to find out what sort of questions will be asked and how involved the answers need to be. He's never written an exam in anything before and wants to be as prepared as possible. What is so wrong with that? As for saying to just pay the money and get the black belt...isn't the fact that he wants to be prepared proof that he is taking it seriously?
With all the abuse I've been taking I'm starting to regret asking the question in the first place.

when i took the test and wrote an essay i think all that mattered is that u tried on it and that u did it. if it isnt the best essay in the world he wont b in trouble and he will still pass and get his blackbelt. cuz hey i got my blackbelt when i was 10 and now im 17 so screw all the ppl that say that u cant b 10 and get a blackbelt

I'm really starting to think that there should be an age requirment for getting your black belt.. you should have to be atleast 21 to get one...
C'mon a ten year old with a Black belt!!! .... I bet when and if he tells someone he has got his black belt anyone with half a clue will respond "oh, you must do TKD"... go figure..

Don't worry my brother was only 9 when he gave his black belt exam and he passed it easily. Well I passes it too.
All your son would have to do is sparring and poomse/forms. He might not have to break boards.
But don't worry he will be fine.

Here we go again.
This belt, that belt, blue belly orange belt, 19th degree black belt. Where does it ever end with some of these disciplines.
Tell him to put on a pair of shorts, (we don't care what color) and go to a gym that teaches fighting.
Years from now he will be capable of removing someones 27th degree black belt and choking them with it.

Each association. In ours, we write papers as part of our BB requirements, there is no written test.

Are you kidding me? Your 10 year old son is going to be a black belt? Mother of God I am so done with Taekwondo or "Take-yer-dough" as I like to call it. Congrats on your son putting time into an art, but you couldn't even begin to convince me that he understands what it means to be a black belt. I am guessing he is in ATA. This is the kind of stuff that gives TKD a bad name. How long did it take him to get to this belt? a year? maybe 2?
Look online for "black belt test" and you will find tons of written ones. I just found 2.

Eh... I strongly suggest you find other gym. That way when he recieve a real black belt, it'll mean much more to him.
