I am sorry for both you and Delilah, losing a friend is always difficult. I don't think that you adopted too soon - Delilah will see Sam as just another member of the household, not a replacement for Samson. Consider asking the vet about some kitty anti-anxiety pills for the short term. Cat nip is also great for kitty anxiety. Give her loads of love and especially stroke her face and head with your fingers (mimics being bathed by mother) and I would also brush her nightly to help soothe her.

I am glad you will have a vet check her out. Stress is a component of illness and the two can feed off one another.
Maybe it was a little too soon for the new cat and that's water under the bridge now. Ignatia is the homeopathic remedy for grief and you can safely give Delilah a 30C dose of that (you too if you are still grieving about Samson). It lifts the heaviest burden from the heart and though there will always be sadness around the loss it frees up energies to go on and live life in a better state of mind. The ignatia is a simple, one-time thing. You can find it in a health food store - not a GMC. I would pick this up today and give it to her right away so she can start eating.
Delilah might also benefit greatly from the Bach flower essence Walnut which is for adjusting to change in one's life. It could help her deal with Sam in a positive way. You just shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on the fur between her ears three to four times a day for a week or ten days. The flower essences are for emotional healing and cannot harm your cat in any way nor interfere with any treatment the vet recommends for her.

This may sound sappy, but I think cats react much like humans. She probably isn't interested in a friend right now. No one will ever convince me that cats don't grieve. I saw it with my own cat. She is totally different now since my other cat died. She no longer plays, and now only goes to my husband.
Remember, all the smells in the house from the previous cat are still there. You and I can't detect them, but your remaining cat can. It took my cat about 6 months to be 'normal' again.
The vet will be able to rule out any illnesses, and then you can work on helping her get back to normal. Lots of hugs and attention should help. Good luck and I am so sorry about Samson. I sure do know what you are going through!

This is a very sad thing to happen in any family. Delilah sound quite upset and yes you may have adopted too soon, but she will come to terms with things soon so don't worry too much give her loads of attention and try not to worry about the eating thing she will eat when she has to. I know what it feels like to lose someone close to you food is the last thing on my mind. If she does not eat or drink for 5 days then a vets appointment will be needed. in the mean time tummy rubs and loads of kisses. She is saying goodbye to her friend in her own way. Good luck and I am sorry for your loss.

Sam is probably the cause of the non eating of Delilaa. Delil probably is wondering what happened to Samson and this thing don't smell like Samson. The new cat and Delila are probably going to be the best of friends in a wile, but till then Try to feed them in different areas, and give Delila lots of extra love and emotion(she needs it) from you!!Hope Delila feels better!!!!!!!

I am so sorry about Samson. I recently went through the same ordeal - I had 2 kittens and 1 was run over. I don't mean to be negative but my other cat who was only one ran away and I never saw her again. I still really miss her. Just make sure you really pamper Delila and give her lots of love so. I really do think it is to early to adopt, I hope everything is OK...

delilah will mourn for a long time. i had a cat mourn the loss of her best pal-- another kitty i had she played with--for 5 years.
good idea to distract her with another pal--she will get along with him later--they have to get used to each other first.
