A NGO is merely a non-governmental organization. It simply means that it is not part of the government. A non-profit is a kind of organization that is designed not to make a profit, and has an elected board to govern it. An NGO then could be a non-profit, and vice-versa. An association is merely a collection of like-minded individuals, though sometimes there may be fees or other eligiblity criteria for membership.
