The orders will tell you. Mine said a time no less then 12 months, until completion of mission. My unit was there for 14 months. I recently got out of the army and my unit is going back in Feb for the third time, oirders now say a time of no less than 16 months until completion of mission. the longest you can go is 2 years. You are supposed to go 1 year then have 2 years back, but look at it this way, I was an officer in 3rd ID, we went first, then went 11 months later for 14 months, and my firends that are still in will have been home for 10 months and are goign for a minimum of 16.

The length of an Army unit depends on it mission. Most units go for 10 to 12 months. Sometimes when the unit needs to be extended to help support the area it is in.

regular army troops spend between 11 months to 12 months. but if the missions dictate the can be extended beyond it. regular army will pay $1000 per month(over 12 months) if your orders extend you 15 months in iraq/kuwait. national guard will stay for 12 months and they get $1000 if they have 24 months active duty and over 12 months in iraq/kuwait.
SF stay deploy for 3-6 months depending on missions. 6 on 6 off.
