The bible says that Jesus will return and break the eastern sky but east is someones west. I asked this question and got answers like "just face north on the map" or "the sun rises in the east." At the exact time the sun is rising in the east, the sun is setting in someone elses west. This is not an overly complex question. If Jesus is going to break the eastern sky (and the earth is in fact round) would that not have to be the west for someone? The same verse (Mathew 24:27) says lighting comes from the east and moves to the west. Also not true. I am just trying to get someone's link to where christians have tried to explain this away.

Everything is based on the fact Jerusalem is the center of God's universe. So West would be Europe, and Us. East Would be China, Austraillia and such.

Matt 24:23 “Then if anyone says to YOU, ‘Look! Here is the Christ,’ or, ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. 25 Look! I have forewarned YOU. 26 Therefore, if people say to YOU, ‘Look! He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; ‘Look! He is in the inner chambers,’ do not believe it. 27 For just as the lightning comes out of eastern parts and shines over to western parts, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 28 Wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

by reading the context of the verse Jesus was illustrating that if lighting flashes east of you, you will see it from the west.

So christians can answer your question.

Matt 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west: so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Have you ever seen a bolt of lightning cross the sky? What he is saying here is that when the Son of man will come again it will be as fast as lightning.
The "cometh out of the east and shineth even unto the west" is describing how fast and how far lightning is, it does not mean that jesus will come from the east and shine on the west.

After spending years in Sunday school and asking teachers questions they couldn't answer, I went on my own quest for Truth. There is much Truth in the Bible, but there is also a lot of metaphor to wade through.

Think of it this way: The Sun (Son) rises in the East (no matter where you live on Earth). When the Sun (Son) rises, it is the start of a new day. Christ is The Light. Think of it as Christ returning each and every day, rather than as some future prophecy.

To understand the Bible more, think outside the box, explore other forms of spirituality, myths, and legends. Study symbolism. The metaphors in the Bible are universal, and after a while, and much study, it will begin to make sense to you. Do not rely on other Christians to answer these questions for you; seek these answers on your own.

Seek and ye shall find.

Continue reading that chapter, you will understand it.

As for your reference to Mat 24:27. The point behind that verse is that when you see lightning strike in everyone sees. If it strikes in the east you see it in the west.

It will be the same at the Return of Jesus. All will see His appearing.

In space, which way is up?

It depends upon your point of reference.

Mat 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

I've seen lightning run along the clouds going east to west. So saying that it is not true is rather inaccurate, wouldn't you say? It happens sometimes, so what you said wasn't accurate, as accurate as you are expecting others to be. Would you say that was true, being fair-minded?

And if I were to say that I saw lightning running east to west while I was in California, would you be fair by saying it wasn't true because there are people living in Hawaii?

I think that you are grasping at straws. But perhaps I'm wrong. You can e-mail me and discuss it further if you want.

East is east is east....... If you got into a plane and flew east, eventually, you would arrive at your take off point from the west, making it east of where you were. Look to the east, you'll see it no mater what, because when He returns, there will be no one in the dark about it.

What you seem to be forgetting is that in the time that Jesus was on this planet and when those parts of the bible were written people thought the earth was flat so they presumed that that statement made since but also he would more than likely arise on his own land
Jerusalem...that I think makes since.

Wouldn't travelling from east to west circling the globe be coming from the east to all eventually?

which verse was that?

as far i remember geography, Asia is in the east and europe is west...back when I was in asia we refer to us as east, now that i am in europe I am i ´n the east.

We refer to things as Western culture, Eastern traditions etc...I believe it is established where is east and where is west.

TO Y DONCHA: long before science proved that earth is a sphere, it was written in the bible at

Isaiah 40:22 There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth, the dwellers in which are as grasshoppers, the One who is stretching out the heavens just as a fine gauze, who spreads them out like a tent in which to dwell.
