why do suicide bombers think that blowing themselves up will give them eternal life?

I heard from a friend the reason why suicide bombers sacrifice themselves is that God can let them enter to his kingdom. Its really an absurd idea but is it what they really believe? (Those Hijackers in 9/11 kept saying abu akhbar, meaning God is great)

I also heard that in Islam. They believe that it is legal to kill a person who does not believe in Islam. Is this true?

In Islam it is a martyr that goes directly to heaven. A martyr is someone who dies while fighting/resisting against an oppressive action.

In the eyes of the suicide bombers, they believe they are dying fighting an oppressor by whatever means they have (suicide bombings) and thus they believe they will go to heaven.

It is worth noting that there is a debate within Islam whether Suicide Bombers are actually martyrs, and from my last readings on the matter it seems that a majority of Muslim scholars believe that Suicide bombers in Palestine/Israel can be classified as Martyrs while this cannot be said for the bombers of 9/11 and 7/7.

Also, in Islam, the majority opinion is you cannot kill some because they do not believe in Islam, but then again, there are always going to be some idiots who will disagree with this. Its just how the cookie crumbles.

What's most strange about the suicide bombers is that they target non-combatants, which is strictly forbidden by Islam.

But they are being preached to, and they buy it. They aren't the only deluded people on this planet.

I read about a judge in a Middle Eastern country (I forget which one), who started arguing with terrorists tried in his court. He found that, after listening to them, and then showing them the relevant passages from the Koran, he could actually turn them around.

I don't find the Quran verses now, but it says in Quran that the martyrs who die in war will get reward in paradise. It doesn't speak about suicide bombers, I think in the Quran a martyr is considered a person who was killed by the enemy army in a battle - at least this what these verses imply as far as I remember them. I mean it is just about dying in war and mostly Muslims say that war is only legitimate if Muslims were attacked first, and this is supported by several verses from the Quran. But nowadays certain radical Islamic groups like the Hamas interpret this the way that they say a suicide bomber somehow dies in war and during "fight". And from what I mostly heard from Muslims in Islam it is not allowed to kill civilians, and there is a verse in Quran that says that who kills an innocent person is considered like someone who killed the humanity. But Hamas say that no Israeli is innocent and none of them was actually civilian, and they promote a lot of hatred against Jews fueled with certain verses from the Quran and a lot of anti-Semitic ideas imported from Europe. Similar hatred exists against America with the assumption that all Americans were somehow guitly, and so a legitimate war target.

because thier societies have brainwashed them into thinking there is and afterlife and that there are 100 (or whatever number) of virgins waiting for them in heaven (not sure if there are even that many dead virgins in existance for every suicide bomber.

In order to look at it you really need to examine thier society and realize that the suicide bomber isn't ever going to be a terrorist leader who would always have an excuse for not doing one themselves, but they don't have acess to information or education like our society does, everything is crammed down thier throat in the form of islam.

Then they have the poor, who don't even have the level of acess to things others have even within thier highly oppressive islamic societies and they are told, "this is what you will recieve in the next life". Then feed them some cock and bull story about jihads and glory of allah, yada yada.

So really terrorists are preying on thier own poor and destitute. Then there are countries that actually send funds for terrorist bombings, european countries that support them like france and germany knowing that the money will go to terrorism.
