That's just the kind of thing my mum would do. I have friends on standby who I can call and go "AHHHHHHHHHHHHgggggggg - guess what she's done now?"
I can't help other than to let you know you are not alone.

lol...seriously though? You didnt mention how old she is...could she be getting alzheimers? If not, maybe she just wants you to use the same cleaning products she uses? Its sort of a mom thing - like passing down something (yes even cleaning products) down a generation. Its zany, but possible. And about the phone...maybe she just thought it was a really cool phone and she didnt see it anywhere else in the UK? Try to look on the positive side :)

how old is she and how is her health? She could be having problems that need to be evaluated. Maybe she just likes those products and wants you to try them. Maybe she thinks the phone has an adapter you can get. Dont take it personally. Just dont spend so much on her next time. The amount of money spent really isnt the important thing.

Maybe she thought that as you are so clean the cleaning products would save you money. She obviously thinks cleaning is some thing you enjoy. As for the phone well maybe she does not want to speak to your other half so all in all not bad presents really quite thoughtful.(on her part of course)lol

I would just accept the gifts and thank her, no matter how you feel. Later ask her if there was a certain reason for getting you cleaning supplies. Ask her if your house is dirty. But be sensitive about it. be nice and say thats its not a big deal that you were just wondering. Hope I helped.

I understand how you feel, give her the original prezzie and bite your tongue...
Sometimes people do not understand how their well intended, seemingly practical gifts can be a bit if a blow...
It is the thought that counts, just thank her and bless her and drink many mimosas and know that the day is a short one after all....
Maybe she is just trying to be funny...let's hope!
If it were me, I would eat the box of biccys myself! LOL

I think you should be straightforward with her. Tell her what you are feeling and ask her if there is a reason behind the gifts. Maybe she has good intentions. Don't ruin the holidays over something that can very easily just be a misunderstanding.

haha, dont you just LOVE christmas? Just ask your mother, how is so and so supposed to use this phone if it doesnt work in the UK? And be comical with her about the cleaning products....like "Gee mom, are you trying to tell me something?"

Your mum sounds like an airhead. Why would she get you cleaning products. Even if your house is dirty, that's not much of a Christmas gift. and a phone you can't use? I'm usually one to just accept the gift and be glad they thought enough to get something, but this seems completely thoughtless. I would tell her thanks, but no thanks and ask her why she chose those things as gifts. I would be hurt if my mom gave me those things, and she would know about it.
Wait until after christmas, maybe the other answer was correct. Maybe she told you this to throw you off and is really going to get you something you really want.
