Well, I hear these days that a fetus that's 22 weeks or more has a chance at living. I don't know the percentage, but, I'm sure its very low. I know a girl that had her baby at 25 weeks. She weighed about a pound and a half. The baby is still living but she's been in the NICU now for over a month and still not doing very good. There's also long term problems associated with preemies. Like eyesight, learning, and the list goes on. If there's any way to stop it. It should be done. The closer the baby is to term the better.

A woman can give birth anytime, whether the baby lives or not is the real question. As a general rule a baby is not viable until 26 weeks (meaning that it more than likely won't live) A baby born at 26 weeks is very high risk for a brain bleed, repository problems, behavioural problems later in life, mental delays and a hole host of other things. A baby's sucking reflex does not truly kick in until about 35 weeks.

i believe survival rate is from 30 -33, roughly translated from 6 months, while the child might survive, provided that his of hers lungs and other organs are fully developed, there is still a consideable risk, so that the child may have to remained in the hospital to be monitored a good few weeks of months after birth. I'm not sure how possible it is, but my sister was born at 33 weeks (6 2/3 months ) and shes perfectly fine now, but there were a lot of complications.

Of corse a baby can be born at 6 months.

I had my son a little over 5 months...he didn't make it.

They say at 24 weeks preggo you have a 50 50 chance of the baby living. As each week goes on the baby's changes get stronger.

The sooner a child is born the more likely it is to have learning problems and other physical abnormality's...like eye site ect ect. Or they could be 100% normal

Yes. I had a friend who gave birth at six months. Her daughter was just 1 pound and very sick. She was in the hospital for over 3 months with lots of complications. However she is now home and at 3 months old, she looks like a newborn.

It is dangerous but happens especially in high-risk pregnancies. (For example: mom has a medical condition such as diabetes or kidney disease.) A baby does not have fully developed lungs after only six months, so a premature baby can not breathe properly on his or her own.

If you know someone who is six months pregnant and appears to be in labor, call a doctor! (It could be that the mom is experiencing false labor or contractions and may just need to drink water, rest, etc.)

Since babies gain most of their weight in the last trimester, this baby would be very small. With a large chance of having underdevloped lungs. Maybe vision problems too. But, I had a friend who had a child at 6 months. He has RSV now. And asthma, and wears glasses. He spent almost 2 months in the ICU. But he is 6 now. And he is an average little boy beside those medical problems.

Yeah, but the chance of survival for the baby is slimmer than if he/she were born full term. Not to mention the baby will spend the next couple of months in an incubator, or until they reached at least 5 1/2 lbs and began to feed on their own.

Very possible, also very dangerous for the baby. Drs want a baby to develop for at least 32 wks before delivery if possible. Of course some younger babies survive, but the younger they are, the less chance the will live.
