The best decision is to take your daughter to a professional and have them look at her hair. They can discuss the benefits and disadvantages of both options and then they can decide which will work best for your daughter. I had a perm for many years and 7 years ago, I decided to let it grow out. I think that was the best decision for me because now I can dye my hair any color I want and not worry about my hair breaking off.

Both are damaging, but both can be maintained so they don't look like they did any damage.

I used to color my hair and I had it permed about 2 months ago. It looks fine and I had dry hair to begin with. So as long as she takes care of it, no overdrying or too much heat, and do a deep condition treatment once or twice a week, her hair should look fine. If she wants both, allow a few weeks after the perm to dye it, otherwise the hair will be to overprocessed and look that way as well. Permed hair cannot be washed the first 48 hours afterwards, this allows it to set better.

Either way, she will have some damage, I would say a little more with the perm, but like I said...if she takes care of it well it won't look damaged.

Neither! I have had the best of both worlds and now my hair is breaking due to overprocessing for so many years. I would suggest...IF YOU MUST...use a rinse. Its not permanent and 9 times out of 10 won't damage your hair. The most you will experience is stained pillows and collars for a few weeks.

Don't mess up your beautiful natural hair with and perms or bleach. Good luck!

Both are damaging to the hair. Tell her to look into some of the many natural hairstyles for african american women. She will not regret it. I permed my hair for years before starting my locks. My hair is healthier and its growing twice as fast as it ever did with all those chemicals.

You should have a professional look at your daughter's hair condition and decide.
