Good question.
Love should be what is governing all our responses to Non-Christian, but alas..it is not.
Many are hard "legalistic" types,

There have been many "Christian's responses" over the last year on Yahoo. Perhaps it would help to be more specific of the responses that fall short, rather than suggesting it to be generally true.

May I humbly suggest that this would be a more charitable critique than an implication that all Christian answers have fallen short.

For the very words you quote do in fact culminate with, "But the greatest of these is charity (love.)"

I think Christians on this site do try to do their best to be patient and loving and tolerant of others. However even Jesus got angry on more than one occasion.
It's one thing for someone not to believe in Christ but if for no other reason than to be a human being they could make comments other than things like getting a BJ from Jesus. BTW I am a Christian and my brother is a pastor.

I'm a Christian . I believe that whenever I response to the question in Yahoo, it's a chance for me to witness to other. Christian should response with love, but also without ignoring the truth of the Word of God. It means you have to take everything in context.

Answer or ask questions with love in your heart, and charity for your fellow human beings, not in anger. Be kind, and never rude. Do not be vain, and think to well of yourself for your knowing something another does not. Be patient, be forgiving. Rejoice in true answers, or answers that lead to truth. Endure. Hope. Believe. Give others the benefit of the doubt.

Know that the most eloquent answer (in "the tongues of men and of angels") given without love is empty. Do not condescend.

Here's the reading from the King James Version:

1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Unfortunately, it doesn't. Many Christians today are claiming to be followers of Christ, but really aren't following Him. They acknowledge Him with their lips but deny Him with their lifestyles. Of course, many don't even acknowledge them by their lips. As Christians, we try to blend in with the world so we can't picked out for what we believe. So Christian resposnes aren't always made in the love of Christ, or directing others toward God and Scripture. It makes it difficult to see Jesus when all there is is a calloused answer.

well I agree...inspiration is a better message instead of atheists suk lol...oh but also if you copy and paste you can transfer text w/out typing...just blue the text w/ your cursor by holding left click and right click it and choose copy..then wherever you put a cursor bar next r click and choose paste...in case you didnt know...heres corinthians:13 1-7:

1This will be my third visit to you. "Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses."[a] 2I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others, 3since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. 4For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God's power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live with him to serve you.
5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? 6And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. 7Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed.

I'm at work and don't have a Bible with me, so it would be nice if you posted the versus, but I agree, Christians are supposed to be moved out of love and not want to instantly retaliate, but I guess it's easier when you're sitting anonymously behind a computer.

Well... that is a good question... I am a born-again loving Christian who is bisexual. How would you respond to that? Many so-called Christians (more like 'churchians') will tell me because of who or what I am I am going to hell using slurs. How is that love? I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit and spent years in ministry, so who are they to judge? Do they know anything about me or how I came into being this way? Have they walked in MY shoes? I did not choose to be bi, but I am... and finally instead of being ashamed for the last two decades of my feelings, I have embraced that part of me I used to conceal and FULLY loved myself... as God loves me. I confessed my bisexuality and have been freed bi the power of God's unending love. I am joyful once again.

I don't even like using the word 'hate' as there is just too much of it in this world... I say "can't stand" or "don't like" instead... the 'H'-word is outlawed in our house, except for when it comes to the NY Yankees. LOL... I love to love... as well as smile and laugh. I try as much as possible to let my deeds or actions speak moreso than my words, but always try from a POV of loving, open, accepting, tolerant, forgiving, objective, open-minded... and as non-judgmental as possible.

I believe God does not ask us to judge... it even says in John 3:17 that His only son was brought here NOT to judge the world, but to be its savior. We are supposed to be Christlike. How can we be so if we have no love as He did and judge others? We must first love God, only then can we love ourselves... and in turn, others, because one cannot love others if they can't love themselves. Those who don't do that... don't truly know the full meaning of love IMO. Love takes patience and sacrifice... a true selflessness. Not many people in this materialistic society understand the real meaning of selflessness or sacrifice, let alone patience. We want it all and we want it yesterday.

When I was wed, I had printed on the program, the entire 13th chapter of 1st Corinthians as well as had it read aloud bi my sister. I felt that entrenched in the importance of the preface to "Love is kind," etc. which is always repeated at every wedding (I'm a DJ, I know) and wanted people to hear the full context of what that chapter was all about.

We cannot do anything in God's name without... LOVE.

Yes, but all fall short of the Glory of God. That is why we must repent and try and try again. Human nature brought down from Adam and Eve.

yes, we are to heed these verses in our responses on this site. perhaps that is why it is necessary for those of us who live by that standard continue to respond to questions here. i believe a positive response can lead to God, a mean spirited one does not. thank you for the reminder of these verses! perhaps for some it is just a condition of verse 11.
