This is a good question actually.

You'll find that in Islam worship is personal. It's between the Individual and God. Things like singing isn't prohibited but tend not to be practiced.

Singing is group worship and a form of that in Islam would be the five daily prayers.. the quran is recided in a sing-song voice. Other then that worship is private... it's a conversation between God and His creation... Do you usually sing in conversation?

To each his own. It's not to say that one is better then the other.

A very good question if you intend to know about Islam.

Have you ever listned to the reciting of Quran ? It is like a song. The Quran is not just read like a book, it is recited and while reciting, the voice goes higher and higher.

You might have also heard the 'Adaan' or 'Azaan' which is recited aloud from a mosque before every prayer. Any music teacher will tell you about its 'NOTES'

Moreover there are several sects of Muslims who prefer to dance while worshipping, like Turkish Darvesh.

There are several sects of Muslims whose love for music and poetry is world famous like Sufi saint Ameer Khusro.

The musical " Qawwaalees" in praise of God or prophet Muhammad or any Sufi saints, are very popular in India and Pakistan.

And for 'joy in Islam'..........,

Only a ' net addict ' can tell you what is the joy in the 'Internet'...
Only a swimmer can tell you the joy of swimming....,
Only a music lover can tell you what is the joy of music....,
Only a reader can tell you the joy of reading....,
Only an author can tell you the fun of writing......,
Only a Muslim can tell you the joy in Islam......,

.......................not others.

So what's your point? Does your religion sing while praying??
I find it sickening that you are trying to bring down the name of Islam by asking stupid questions like this one. You do not need to sing to express joy. I'm not muslim, but anyone can see that you're idiotic freak.

There is plenty of joy in Islam. Muslims do sing and have many famous singers Youcef Islam (aka Cat Stevens) we just don't do it at mosque that's all. On Islam Channel they always have children singing songs and groups too.

The ability to talk personally to Allah(swt)(God) is the ONLY joy Muslims need. No need for music or singing or rapping or any earthly help to get God to notice us and hear our prayers.

Joy need not always be expressed through song. If you like singing go listen to gospel.

Judaism does the same thing. Even when they read the Torah it is chanted. Some believe that when the prophets gave their prophecies they sang them while playing the harp.
