Ok, so I have one of those big red ones that you can't pop on my nose, and a smaller one under my nose. Well last night I put some toothpaste on them and when I woke up, I washed it off. Then I noticed that the pimples got a whitehead, which I'm guessing means they can be popped. Are these whiteheads showing up bad?

It's not bad. Your not supposed to pop pimples, but I always did. If you pop it, just make sure that you squeeze it hard enough to get out all of the puss and possibly a "core". Then wash your face with an antibacterial cleanser.

I use Proactiv now and I don't have this problem anymore!

The white head means the bacteria has come to the surface.

Unlike popular belief...popping pimples does not always scar them. What you need to know is when not to pop them because this is what causes a scar. If you over pop, as in a scab or yellow crust has formed, this leads to a scar. I've also noticed that when I DON'T pop pimples I usually end up with a scar. So dermatologists have some explaining to do with their farse about scarring.

So, what you can now do is place a hot, wet washcloth on the pimple to help open the pore. Gently squeeze the pimple using your hot wash cloth. This is easier, I find, since sometimes when I pop pimples/blackheads my fingers slide out of place.

For the record...I pop my pimples all the time, sometimes not using a washcloth and I have no scarring from popping pimples, only from not popping, but I do have just 1 because I did over-pop.

noooo dont use toothpaste!! :]

buy an inexpensive drugstore zit gel instead! toothpaste and weird home remedies stuff doesn't work very well on ur skin! they might irritate ur skin even more! use stuff that were MADE especially for helping ur skin.

i use persa-gel 10 and it works a miracle. its by clean and clear and its only $4.49 at target or $4.99 at almost all drugstores.

if that doesn't work for u, try clearasil or zapzyt or neutrogena on-the-spot.

u can also spot treat ur zits overnight with queen helene's mint julep masque (a popular and well-loved product for decades). just dab a bit over ur pimple, sleep, and the next morning it should be less noticeable, less red, or gone! its usually around $2-3 at target, walmart, and just about every drugstore.

hope that helps!

and, by the way, i get whiteheads too and no they aren't bad. its a sign that ur pimple is healing. the best way to pop a pimple (only if u REALLY have to but it will leave a scar that will take months to fade unless u use ambi skin lightening cream... $4.99 at target) is to get a warm WASHED and CLEAN washcloth (so no bacteria will get into ur skin and cause more ZITS) and gently squeeze and quickly lift all the pus out. then dab on some hydrogen peroxide to fight off bacteria and prevent an infection.

if u dont want to take the chance of spreading more bacteria on ur face, use a bunch of soft tissue paper or toilet paper instead of a washcloth.

Hello,

I've done skincare consultations to know that acne is very diet related. Toothpaste (I've tried that before and it makes it worse and redder) usually doesn't work. It's because of all the artificial chemicals in toothpaste that irritate the skin.

Are you consuming foods that are high in dairy? Milk, icecream, yogurt, candies/cookies made with dairy products in it? If so, this is probably a huge contributing factor to your acne. Eliminate all dairy out of your diet for a week if this is the case. To see what happens.

If this is not the case, then don't pop the whiteheads, or it'll cause scarring. Instead, I'm going to give you dietary advice, as I believe this will heal these the quickest. Besides eliminating all dairy products, follow this advice for quick results.

1. For breakfast eat lots of organic strawberries or blueberries. Alternate with the berries every morning. Wait 3 hours before eating other types of food.

Or...You could do this: Day 1: Organic (frozen are cheaper) blueberries for breakfast. Wait 2 hours and have organic strawberries. Wait 3 hours and have regular (non-dairy containing) food for the day.

I hope this helps.

NO, but you should not pop them. Use a hot wash towel and hold it there on the site. Make it as hot as you can stand. The heat will draw out the puss. Yes, the white stuff is puss under your skin,. If you pop a pimple, you could leave a scar on your face.
Do it a few times a day and it should resolve on its own. I know it can be embarrassing but I'd rather it embarrass me for a day than have a scar on my nose. I use pro active solution. It works wonders. Try a pimple cream!
Good Luck

What the toothpaste does is draw the whitehead out so they can be popped and begin to heal. But don't use the gel kind of toothpaste.

I had one just like it a couple days ago, yes you can pop it as long as you do it the right way. Wash your face as well as your hands before. Then cover your fingers with a tissue. Squeeze the pimple gently until all of the puss is out, then cover it up with a pimple cream. I have not popped pimples before and they have turned to scars so def. do not let it just stay there. good luck : )

to pop or not to pop...must be the question! I went to a licensed day spa, they gave me a facial, after a very warm steaming, the girl had a "tool" that looked like a pencil with a large paperclip attached to the end, she would deeply drag this across my skin or any blackhead area. The zits came right out, she finished up with another deep cleansing and a disinfectant/toner, then a very cold compress. Amazed me, my skin rather glowed for a while, but people with large pores seem to just fill up with oil faster...the key is clean clean clean!

don't listen to that idiot that said pimples are all about your diet. what you eat has a very minimal effect on your acne but saying that try to avoid alot of sugar. pimples are a result of your sebacious gland producing to much sebum which is what lubricates the skin. the gland is over work mostly during puberty due to the fluctuations in your hormones. in regards to your pimples just leaving them alone is the quickest way to get rid of them. just use a good oil free cleanser and moisturizer and you will have the best results you can get without using medication.

The pimples you described are called cystic acne. Most people get them from time to time. The white head appearing means that they're going away. You can pop them if you want. Unfortunately, with cystic acne, they leave a mark, even if you don't pop them. If you have cystic acne often, you might want to see a dermatologist who will prescribe meds to heal them for good.
