So shall I ask the owner to help pay for suport for the kittens or at least take half of them. My cat is tortoise shell and from the colour mix of the kittens is has to be the ginger tom from next door. Also all the other nearby tomcats have had an unpleasent visit to the vet!

Can a Litter Contain Kittens from Multiple Sires?

Yes. On the street, a queen may mate with two or more tom cats over the length of the estrus cycle - up to 21 days, with an average of seven days. Although genetics of the queen may come into play, multi-colored kitten litters will often vividly demonstrate multiple mating. Some breeders of pedigreed cats keep the queen and chosen tom together for multiple matings to ensure that pregnancy will result.

No, you shouldn't as the owner for anything. You should have had your outdoor cat spayed so that she wouldn't have gotten pregnant. And your neighbor should keep his unneutered cat indoors too or at least neuter him.

Male cats can tell a female in heat from a mile away. Just because the locals are neutered doesn't mean a stray from a block away didn't get to her.

If you ask the owner of the kittens' father to help pay to support the kittens (and pay for vaccinations etc), you should naturally give him half of whatever money you get when you sell/give away the kittens, and the father's owner will (IMO) also have the right to sell the kittens, since by helping you pay for them he should be considered co-owner of the kittens, so to speak.

I agree with what some other people have said. Sure, the owner of the ginger tom has some responsibility for letting that cat out un-neutered, but you also have the responsibility not to let your cat run out when she's in heat, unless you WANT her to have kittens.
I think that you should spay your cat once the kittens are about six weeks (that's around when they start to get weaned off, so if your cat for some reason should get complications, the kittens won't suffer too much from it). This will prevent this situation from occurring again, and it is (IMO) more responsible, since you won't be adding to the number of homeless cats there are.
You might say, "But I'd make sure that my kittens get good homes."
That may be so, but for every one of YOUR kittens that get a home, one potential home for already homeless cats is gone. =/

I'm not trying to preach, just explaining my opinions. In the end, what you do is up to you. =)

Ask the owner of the father to take half the litter because it was his male cat that made your female have babies. how many babies were there? If you give the owner of the father half, you won't have much trouble selling them. Try selling them before Christmas if you can because many people want kittens for the holidays. Also try to have your cat spayed so this will not happen again. You could keep one of the kittens.

No. The suspected "father" of kittens is not liable and also is likely not the only father, may not even be a father. You are responsible for having your cat spayed but since that didn't happen she has had kittens now. I hope you can find them homes and that you will get your cat spayed after the kittens are weaned from her. Contact your local SPCA or Humane Society to find out where low cost spaying is available in your area.

A tortoiseshell cat can produce any colour kitten so you can not know who the father is. I suggest you ask your neighbours to neuter their boys and maybe you should also spay your girl.
As for the upkeep of the kittens you could start looking for some great new homes for them and always ask for money for the kitten as people take better care of things they have paid for. You will then get your money for the up keep of the kittens. Enjoy watching them grow they are so much fun!

You should have kept your cat indoors, especially while she was in heat. I don't think you could get any compensation from the other cat owner. Try to find the kittens some good homes. If you keep your cat inside you will know when she is in heat.

I like your idea. The owner should take some responsibility!

But I think you BOTH should be taking your cats in for that unpleasant visit. Be a responsible pet owner - no more unwanted kittens, and a healthier mommy cat too.

Get your cat fixed and find good homes for the kittens. Don't drag the neighbor into it because maybe, just maybe, you are wrong about the father...
Or you could just calmly talk to the neighbor and let them know you "think" their cat and yours have been "spending time together" and both should be fixed to prevent further litters.....

You can take them or give them to a loving family. Or keep your half and give the other half away. Ask if the owner if he wants one. Or why didnt you have her nutered if you dont want the idea of kittens. Or keep them all until there weaned and then sell them. Or take one and give the rest away or sell them.Or do whatever you think is best.

Don't ask for half the money, if you didn't want your cat to have kittens you should of had her spayed. Kittens don't cost much to keep and you can sell them at 8 weeks to reimburse your costs
