Yes I was at FT Jackson for basic training.
Not all that many good stories to tell about FT. Jackson in specific, but a few things you may be interested in.
1. You will more than likely see a black widow spider during your time there. I saw 4 in 3 months. So yes they are around.
2. Lots of lightning storms there. They get pretty intense around there and i'm sure you'll see one.
3. Ground is kind of sandy and that means ant heaven. Be careful where you sit and what you lean against. Ants bite and it really sucks.
Other than that and depending when you go the heat can make it lousy. I didn't really like Jackson too much as I found it pretty boring most of the time. Reception sucks balls, and you'll find that out quick there.

I went to Ft. Jackson for Basic from Jan-Feb of 1993. It is a huge and impressive post, and you will see a lot of it during your training. There will probably be a demonstration of anti-tank ordinance at some point, be sure you don't go on sick call that day.
It was cold as *** when I was there, and we had to go to the field (camp out) for a couple of days. The ground was literally frozen solid, and setting up camp was an ordeal.
Let's see, any advice I could give you...never, EVER, pull KP if you can help it. You will learn what that means soon enough. When you get your immunization shot, your butt is going to hurt like hell for days! Bring some tylenol.
Other than that, you should probably start getting ready physically now. You will be required to do a lot of pushups, situps, and run 2 miles. If you can do these at a certain level, you will be given a "PT Badge" and the title of "Iron Man" and a lot of special priviledges. It will pay to be in shape when you get there. Good luck!!!

Yes. I went to Fort Jackson for BCT earlier this year. I went from June-August. I also attended AIT (August-October) and then Postal School (October-November) all at Fort Jackson. Honestly
'Laxin' Jackson' is a term that can be tricky. It all depends on which Company you get assigned too, I was Fox Trot 2/60th and it sure wasn't relaxing. Also, it gets HOT....DRINK WATER.

No I went to Fort Benning in Georgia in August! It sucked hard. We all called Fort Jackson "Relaxin' Jackson" because the BCT there was supposed to be considerably easier because it's coed.
