You will obviously need a memory card because internal memory is extremely small, so is useless for storing any amount of photos.
You need a minimum memory card of about 512MB or more.
You do not need a card reader, as all cameras come with a mini USB cable which you plug directly into your PC...and XP will detect it automatically. I think it's unnecessary to take your memory card out of your camera every time you want to upload photos.

You do need a memory card for a digital camera. You probably don't need a card reader because your camera should have come with a usb wire to plug in to your computer. Many notebooks and printers come with slots to put all the different media cards. If you need a memory card for a new camera find out what type it is and search via Google or whatever and you will find the cards very affordable. The bigger the better when buying one. 2 gig can be had cheap at buy.com. Use Google check-out and save even more!

You don't NEED them, but you will be a lot happier with both items.

If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.

First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.

If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.

The USB port does come with the camera, but it sucks your batteries dry. Depending on your camera, they can be expensive to buy new ones after they stop holding a charge. If you have a slow computer, it will take even longer. I have the media drives on my computer and my printer. I did have SanDisk card reader. I do believe it held 2 different cards. That is the cheapest way to go.

Most modern cameras come with a USB connector, and need memory. Some camera's have some memory that is built into the camera, but you can't take alot of pictures.

I would say yes for the memory card, not necesserly for the card reader.

You dont need one neccesarily, but I would recomend one due to the fact that most internal memory is quite small. If you get one you dont need a card reader you can get a cable that will attach to your USB port and transfer the pictures that way

No, most have internal memory..some are kind of small though. It should hold at least 200 photos on lower resolution without a card.
