there is nothing called sin. it is the creation of christianity.
every man is god manifested. he is in every man. so the question to be like god does not arise. you are already having god in you.
forget those stories of angels who fell from heaven. those are stories with no basis or truth. may be for kids its ok.
when we have god in us, the question of wanting to be like god does not arise. the highest all that we should try is to be god. that is what god want all of us to be. the only hinderance is the holy book, holy father and the church.

I've never heard that before. But it's not a sin to want to be like God. You should strive to be like Him everyday, even though it's impossible, that's how you should live your life each day. Because striving or trying to be like Him means you're trying to do no wrong and stay close to Him.

Satan did not just want to acquire God like qualities, which would be good, but rather he wanted the worship from humans that is God's alone. Satan rebelled and opposed God. Calling him a liar and suggesting that God was not a righteous ruler.
Matthew 4:8-11: " Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, 9 and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’” 11 Then the Devil left him, and, look! angels came and began to minister to him.
Psalm 83:18: (King James Version)18"That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."
Revelation 4:11: "You are worthy, Jehovah, even our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created.”
Ephesians 5:1: "Therefore, become imitators of God, as beloved children,"
The Bible teaches us to be imitators of Jesus as well, and also the apostles and others who were fine Christian examples and other men of faith even from the beginning as was Abel and Moses, Noah, Joseph, Joshua, King David...so many others. They are examples for us today.
So it is fine to want to develop godly qualities, but not to want what is due only to God.

This is another big problem I have with many religions. I think that the desire to strive for human perfection is the very thing that has brought us to where we are today. When some (not all religious thinkers feel this way) convince you that you should feel guilty for wanting to be godlike, this stunts human development.

It's not a sin to want to be like God, but it is a sin to want to be God. The angel wanted to be God. We want to be like our Father in Heaven. What child wouldn't want to be be like his daddy?

It is noble to want to be like God, but it is not noble to want to be God. Lucifer, the angel you're referring to who was cast out of Heaven, wanted to be God and overthrow God's authority. Lucifer said, "I will be like the Most High God."
He was rebellious and payed the price for it.

You do know who that angel was dont you? That is satan.
Nobody can be like God. But it is good to want the wisdom of God- to know the "things" of God....to walk in His truth- that is why you should be praying for, if you are a christian. I pray for wisdom daily. We are to humble ourselves before the Lord- and pray for His wisdom- for Him to teach us. We are followers of Him- not equals. And we are to worship Him alone- not have anyone worship us.

It wasn't that he wanted to be like God, he actually wanted to overthrow God because he thought he was just a good as God if not better. and we all know this is not true.
We should strive to be like Christ we are made in God's image.
In that sense it is not sinful.

It is not a sin to want to be more like Christ. But it is a sin to want to BE God. To hold no respect or fear for our creator and think we are above him and are good enough to be him.

Yep. It would be like if you did a big project at work. It took you weeks to create and finish it. Someone else finds your project while you're out, tweaks one thing about it and puts his name on it and starts showing it off to everybody. He says, "look what I've made!" Do you think that's fair? Just? Right?
It's one thing to want to be perfect, or just like somebody, but quite another to want to take over their rightful, well earned position.
