Generally the healing period is listed at 4-8 months *average* for full healing. However, the tongue is a muscle and regenerates cells quickly, so in theory, it never really heals but rather get used to having something in it. Often after the 4ish months, you can take it out for a few hours, but still be careful. You can also look into getting a retainer for the piercing so that it is at least less noticable if that is you concern (for job interviews or whatever).
You got it two days ago, so I'm sure your tongue is swollen and sore. Just keep it clean and take Mortin for the swelling and pain. Give it about 2-3 weeks before you fully adjust to having the barbell in your mouth.

Devin,
That is so cool, my son's name is also Devin. Any way, a tongue ring will not really heal. It takes a good couple of weeks to stop hurting though. Chew on allot of Ice or drink smoothies. Don't take it out! It will close within a few hr's or so if you do. Your tongue is one of the fastest healing muscles in your body. The swelling is what is making your tongue hurt so much right now. No worries, as the day's go by the pain will back off some.
Good Luck

It takes several weeks for it to heal totally and no you can not take it out. Your tongue is a muscle and will heal quickly. The hole can start to close in just a few hours. If you need to remove the piercing, you need to replace it with a clear plug that is made just for such uses. You should be able to buy it where ever you got the piercing done.

Don't take it out for a while.
I know this guy that got his tongue pierced, and then went out drinking. He took out his ring so he could drink more beer and not have trouble drinking.
Anyway, he took out his ring, spent the whole night drinking and hanging with his friends, and the next morning, the hole had closed up.
The truth is, the toungue heals veerrryyy quickly, so I would be careful when taking out the ring, keep it in for a while, and only take out for maybe a few hours at a time.

I got mine about 6 years ago. It took me about 3 days to eat anything. I could talk normally after about 3 days also. But, my tongue especially hurt when I woke up in the morning. It hurt in the morning for about 2-3 weeks! But during the day it was pretty sore for at least a week.

typically tongue piercings take 6-8 weeks to heal fully, sometimes even up to 3 mons. usaully it will start to fell more confortable and less painful within 2-3 weeks.
but as far as removing it goes, you should always go to a professional if you want to get the barbell changed. if not, you're risking it closing up. tongue piercings close up in a flash, in as little as 5 minutes. so i would def not recommend taking it out for a couple hrs as it would most likely definetly close

I only had mine pierced for a week, and I had to take it out for good. It hurt too much, but it closed and healed completely in about an hour.

It took mine about 2 weeks. It depends on the person. If you tend to swell alot the chances are your tounge will (or is) swollen and will take around a week or so to come down. Some of my friends never swelled at all. I was drooling like a baby and talking like a tard. Try sucking on ice and eating jello or pudding. Also if its making your throat hurt, take some liquid benadrill. It will bring down swelling and put you to sleep. Its magical!!

i have had my tongue pierced for 2 years. It did not harm at the same time as they truly pierced it, despite the indisputable fact that it all started hurting about fifteen minutes in a while at the same time as it all started swelling up. That lasted for like a week. It actually takes like 2 seconds for them to really pierced it. And yeah, I had a lisp for better or less a week.
