I recently got engaged and bought a ring for my fiance and had it resized to a 4.5 to fit over her knuckle. That is the smallest possible but her fingers are so thin that it still remains loose. I have heard there are tighteners that can help. Do you know where i can find these and what they look like?

I actually was just a party and the girl just showed me her ring- she had the same problem. They actually weld these to little dots inside the wedding band today (same material the band is made out of) It's like two little 2mm prongs. That way she doesn't have to wear an ugly sizer- and sizer fall apart. Plus it stays on her finder perfectly and she said it's really comfortable.
I would ask a jewelers about it. It's really neat- it just two little dots of material in the back of the band.

My mom had the same problem because she has arthritis in her knuckles. Her jeweler put a hinge and clasp on the ring. This way she doesnt have to slide it on she just opens it and clicks it on. You can hardly see any difference, either. It has been this way for at least 5 years and it has never accidentally unclamped and gotten lost. I don't know much about the other tighteners that you are talking about though.

Ask your jeweller to add 'sizing balls' to the bottom, inside of the ring.

These ' balls' are made of the same metal as the ring and are soldered on. The ring can still be fitted over the knuckle, but the ballsw cause it to fit tighter on the finger

Correct sizing for a ring should have the ring fit snugly as it passes over her knuckle, the ring will be at least slightly loose at the base of the finger because the base of your finger is not the same size as your knuckle. Getting a ring sizer might actually hinder rather than help. There is the jeweler-made adjustments (two beads on the inside of the band) that are permanent and less problematic, though.
If you are still interested in getting a ring sizer anyway, they can be found almost any jewelry dept.
I have included a few websites as well (different types of ring adjusters):

http://www.mileskimball.com/sdx/158475.jsp - this one can be put on the ring after it is on her finger.... might be what you were looking for.

I have that same problem. You can buy ring sizers at some jewelry stores, you can buy Metal, gold or rubber ones. The rubber ones I believe are the most comfortable, you can buy them at Wal mart at the jewelry counter, they come in a package of a few different sizes, they are only a couple dollars.

The plastic tubes a cheap and look tacky after a bit. I intend to use the two round balls solution, however.

if it doesn't fal over her knuckle, then it shoud be ok, but if she's worried about it falling off, they make these things that look kind of like little clear plastic tubes, that you slip over the part of the ring where the rock isn't...i think they're called ring snuggies or something like that. and i thikn you can get them at stores like wlmart. or she could wrap it with string...but i'd stick with the snuggies.

i had one that i got at a department store. it was just a band of clear plastic that slides onto & off of the ring. you can also get metal ones, but they tend to scratch the metal.
