A CHP said that this wonderful lady was only traveling 25-30 mph. I disagree because this is California and most people travel faster than that. This is only my opinion please prove me wrong.

Here's the proper 'legal' method.

1) Do not exceed posted speed limit of feeder/frontage road prior to entering the entrance ramp.
2) Enter the entrance ramp and begin to increase speed to traffic flow speed on freeway.
3) As you progress up the entrance ramp, determine where you will 'merge' into the freeway traffic.
4) At the 'end of the entrance ramp' or at the point where you will move into the main lanes, you should be at the current flow speed of the freeway traffic.
5) The Freeway traffic ALWAYS has the right of way and your speed MUST match the vehicles on the freeway at your merge point to merge properly.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

There shouldn't be any set speed to enter a freeway... I know the books might say something specific. The faster the better... for instance if you have to merge into the cars going 65 make sure that you're going 65 so you can fit right in without disrupting the flow of traffic... if you merge going 35 all those cars have to slow down and get irritated at the little old lady merging.

good question, not sure if your looking for the correct answer or if your just wondering how other people drive, but i drive different in different vehicles.. i had a 00 chevy silverado with a 350 in it and i would get up to 80 getting on a ramp and entering the highway, and then i might drive my sisters car doin' like 40 and then my mans car i will do the speed limit cause i don't want to abuse his baby and not be able to use it...lol hope you get your answer! best wishes!

Never argue with a cop! Like city hall, they are ALWAYS right!
On ramps are supposed to be designed to accelerate to match highway speeds. You are supposed to arrive at a reasonable matching speed to merge with the flow of traffic present.
Personally, I pretty well floor it until speed is equal to need.

I like to get my car up to "freeway" speed if at all possible when entering the freeway.

I know a woman who stops at the end of the on ramp and waits for a good opportunity to get on. Yes you read it right......STOPS.

you are supposed to get up to highway speed then merge but we have seen that in almost every state,we are truck driver and people do not know how to merge ,they come on under the speed limit and expect everyone else to slow down for them

fast enough to safely merge with the flow of traffic, or fast enough to get ahead of the oncomming car in the lane your trying to merge with, or as mentioned above, very fast ;)
