Have a look at HD CRT's and rear projection DLP's. I personally think HD CRT's give the best picture out of everything. The screen sizes only go up to 40" though, so it's within your specifications and definitely within your price range.

All the HD CRT TV's are slimeline and they are no longer as big as they used to be. Another advantage is the majority display the 1080 (higher resolution) picture (It's the way CRT's work that means it's cheaper), proven technology, fast refresh rate (No blurring/jerky movements), decent sound and far cheaper/better value for money.

If it is a thin screen you want, LCD seems better to me for a screen the size you want. The best thing to do is to see as many different screens as you can within your chosen size and price range, it's really down to personal opinion at the end of it all.

If you want a flat panel 32" or under, then you don't need to get into the plasma vs. LCD debate. Small flat panels (under 37") are all LCD's. But to answer your question on a more direct manor, I dont think your going to find anyone who knows there TV's that would go on the wire and say one is better than the other. They are equally good for diff reasons. They both make a picture completely diff and the have diff pro's and con's but one isn't better than the other. For example. LCD's typical have a slower refresh rate so fast moving objects can show ghosting, LCD's absorb light so they work well in a bright room (also they are more naturally bright). Plasma's show much better black levels and are dont burn out individual pixles like LCD, but loose brightness over time (about 60K on the half life). Fortunately for you, the size you want you have only LCD's to choose from so you dint have to compare Tech. Good luck.
P.s- Zack Quinn is wrong Plasma's are typicly less expensive per inch. If they seem more expensive its because they are bigger. Go into a Tv retailer and look for yourself. Divide price by inch.
P.p.s - the above comments are true but not much to worry about. Plasma's shouldnt exceed a 45 degree angle and frozen objects can burn in (but its take days not hours of one forzen image, to burn in) its hard to find something that will stay on (not go to screen saver or turn off after 45 min) that long. You can burn in a CRT tube also but you never here of it happening because it's so hard to do. Don't worry about it.

My fiance used to deliver for Currys and when he worked there he used to maon about plasma all of the time. If they are tilted in delivery or more than a 35 degree angle all of the plasma shifts and also if you leave something on pause for a long time the image burns into the plasma. Currys actually had loads of plasma tv which they kep the currys logo on day in and day out and when you switched them off it was actually still there! I recommend LCD - they also have a greater shelf life

You should be looking at 40 to 42 inch for a grand.

Plasma has better colours, faster response time and wider angle for viewing but less life. However, 60K hours is better than a TV CR Tube. I just got a Panasonic plasma TV as reviews were very good.

You have to watch for what connections are provided - some do not have SCART, HDMI or PC sockets.

Plasma TVs are way better in terms of picture quality. LCD hurts my eyes. Plasmas do seem to go wrong quickly though.

Take your pick:
Price: LCD costs more (direct view, not projection)
Resolution: LCD generally higher
Contrast: Plasma much better
Day time viewing: LCD has less glare
Burn-in problem: LCD has none
Eventual bulb replacement: LCD may need it; plasma no
