Because it's Eastern rigamarole, that's why! Nonsense, all of it! There's only one true religion - you're all gonna burn. BURN!!!

Tai Chi is linked with the buddist religion. If you were to do the full-on Tai Chi it involves meditating and concentrating on the Buddah's training.
Mind I personally do not think that using Tai Chi as a form of exercise should not get in they way of her faith. If she wants to continue using the excersises then it is best for her to not discuss it with her priest

YES! I CAN> Catholics can't take a hint. For centuries they thought that everything they did was the right and ONLY way to do things. By the sixteenth century the reformation happened by folk like Assisi. this led to all the protestant sects-lutheranism, calvinism, presbyterianism etc. NOW! This kind of shook up the old caths and they had a counterreformation...Hahahaha They didn't see that people were leaving because their religion was archaic and crumbling from within, so they did things like- Have their cermons in a common language...thats about it really.
All i'm trying to say really is that, unless big J got up on the table at the last supper and did some Tai Chi, then it's wrong and evil and must be erradicated from this christian world, blah blah blah.
As for your comment, 'I thought Tai Chi was a form of exercise, not devil worship?' At the eucharist the priest hands you a waffer and says ' eat, for this is the flesh. (of christ) Gives you a drink of wine and says, 'Drink, for this is the blood.
CANABALISM. It is they who secretly practise devil worship.
You do your Tai chi...sod them bloody hippocrates. lol

I had a similar response from a physical therapist with strong fundamentalist beliefs when I mentioned I did yoga exercises. I assume it is because they don't like anyone tuning into a spiritual energy not overseen by their particular brand of priesthood, seeing it as dangerous.
I have heard that a kid's programme (Care bears?) was blacklisted by the Catholic Church because the moral lessons learned came from each other, not a higher authority. Buffy the Vampire Slayer however - with the lesbian Wicca sex and all - is supposedly OK by the Church.
What do Catholic users of Yahoo think?

The priest is afraid that Tai Chi may instill a thought in your friend's mind that isin't aproved of by the catholic canon. The last thing the church wants is free thinkers roaming around out there.....

Some Catholics, not all, think that any eastern martial art or exercise or meditation, opens you up to the devil. AGain, some, not all. Only a minor percent, less then 1% that I"ve met think this way.

what reason did the Father give her? did she understand his instruction? is it something she really enjoys and he wants her to avoid it for awhile as a form of penance for something? if he thinks Tai Chi is counter to Catholicism, he's not following the teachings of Rome.

I was baptised roman catholic and when I went to church I was told something like that. I think its something to do with spiritulism and reserving the chakra, energy centres in the body and its a different religion to being catholic.
