okay I have a 1 year old mini dachshund and when I call him to come to me he crawls on his stomach to me then flips over on his back, does this mean he sees me as the alpha female? or does it mean something else?

he only does it when I call him anything else in his life he doesnt do it to, he doesnt do it to my husband and my husband just says that the dog is scared of me and just does that to say dont hurt me, would that be another reason or like you all say that its just him still showing I am aplha over him.

You didn't train him wrong - he sees you as master, that's all. Some dogs display more submissive behavior than others. There isn't anything wrong with him, or with you.

It could be that he is showing submission or wanting his belly rubbed, as others have said. It may also just be a learned behavior. If the first time he did this (because he was saying "Sorry, don't hurt me!" or was just being silly) and you laughed and pet him, he was reinforced for it. He may think that it is part of the whole sequence of behavior he is supposed to do when you call him. So, it may be habit and mean nothing at all.

This behavior is definitely submissive. Definitely signalling that he sees you as alpha.

While him seeing you as alpha is excellent, this reaction to a simple 'come' command isn't so good. 'Come' should always be a positive thing in the dog's mind. Your boy obviously has had some bad experiences with 'come' and although he obeys, he is expecting to be punished when he arrives, thus his attempt to appease you by flopping over.

I would suspect that you have, in the past, called him to you and scolded him when he arrived, due to some misdeed he had done. Or called him when you were going to do something he doesn't like, such as giving him a pill, trimming his nails, giving him a bath...something he finds unpleasant.

My suggestion would be to call him to come to you for the next few days, give him a treat and a pat when he arrives, and be done. Repeat this over and over, so that he learns that 'come' is a GOOD thing for him, not something to be dreaded.

In the future, whenever you intend on doing something you know he will find unpleasant, rather than call him to come to you, instead, go and get him and bring him to where you need him to be.

In some cases, such as if he slips his collar or gets out of the yard, you want your dog to always, always be happy to come to you. To not be afraid in the slightest to run to you when you call 'come'. If he gets out of the yard off-leash and you call for him to come, you don't want him mentally weighing the benefits...you want him to think, "YES, mom has a treat for me, I'll leave this squirrel alone and go back to her!"

I'm sure he wants you to pet his belly. Were you the one that has raised him and gives him the most attention? He may just love you a lot more if thats the case. Maybe thats why he rolls over when you call him. I have a mini dachshund too and he loved me the most. Everytime he would go up to anyone he would always roll over. He wanted to be petted. If you stopped, he would bark at you. I love dachshunds!!!!!

That is definitely him deferring to you as the alpha of the pack. If he's not submissive in any other aspects of his life, I wouldn't worry about it. If he's submissive in other ways, you may want to work on his independence so he can learn to interact well with the rest of the world.

Your dog just might be telling you that he wants you to rub his belly or maybe your husband is right. Does you dog moan or act like he doesn't feel good? Maybe you should take it to the vet.

i'm no longer sensible why a canines winks, yet i comprehend why a cat winks. Cat winks are equivalent to cat kisses. it really is their way of showing you they love you! i'd imagine it truly is why a canines winks too, yet besides relax guaranteed that it does no longer advise something undesirable and that you're loved! have exciting such as your pets! they are impressive creatures for companionship and prefer to us human beings.

She's acting submissive. I don't know if she considers you the Alpha, but she definitely ranks you higher in the pack than herself.

It could mean that. It could also mean he wants his belly scratched :)

It's good if he thinks you're t he alpha though, that means you're doing your job right!
