It all depends on what you put in it. Cream and sugar add so much to weight if you are a frequent coffee drinker. Also caffeine can cause you to retain water, and such add a little weight (but shouldn't be anything drastic)

I loved to play ball, and for the first time in my life, I'm actually useful, at a ballgame, instead of just a big stationary person, that maybe if the ball comes within this range, I might get it. I was wearing-I'd always wore XX kind of jersey. And then I went down to medium. And then the medium was too big, that it's coming down here.
So I'm wearing a rockin' outfit, and I'm making a play, and the guy stops, beans it in the face 'cause he says, "Look at your body. You're rockin' hard." And that was the first time I had ever gotten a compliment like that in my whole life.

Coffee itself would not make you gain weight as it a fat free and calorie free drink. However if you load it up with fatty creamers and sugars that will add many calories to the drink. Also if you drink coffee without drinking the appropriate amount of water throughout the day the caffeine can make you retain water which will add water weight to you.

If you are drinking the 1500 calorie Starbuck lattes it can. Also, if you are doing nothing but drinking coffee and not drinking any water, that can slow your metabolism down. A slow metabolism can make you gain weight. So, while it isn't specifically the coffee that is making you gain the weight it is what you put in the coffee and what the coffee does to your body.

Actually coffee, or the caffeine in coffee, will slightly increase your metabolism and suppress your appetite a bit. However the cream and sugar will certainly reverse any benefits you may get from the coffee.
If you buy good coffee and properly maintain your coffee maker you will amaze how good coffee truly tastes.

Caffeine can make people gain weight.. yes.. but it's also what you put into that coffee. However, it doesn't make "everyone" gain weight. Certain health conditions can increase the ability for "caffeine" and other appetite suppresants have an adverse efffect. Not sure how exactly, I just know that I am "insulin resistant" and my doctor referred me to a dietician, whom then told me, I need to minimize the intake of caffeine. So, on that note, I guess I'd have to say, depends on your personal health. Typically, however, plain coffee doesn't make the average person gain weight.

Not the coffee, but the things you add may make you put on weight like sugar and cream.

I have heard that it isn't good for you because if your body goes into spells of high metabolism and then low metabolism due to you having lots of caffeine and then hitting a low it causing inconsistent processing and your body will eventually chose the lower metabolism to keep it safe. I am not 100% sure on this, it's just what I remember hearing -could be a bad source!

It usually has the opposite effect by decreasing appetite but sometimes it also decreases your care about eating right. It's really healthier if you don't drink coffee at all. Coffee is a stimulant and it might feel good at first but if you ever go without it you will feel run over by a dump truck. Leave the junk alone and go for healthy foods. You'll feel better all the way around.

Coffee by itself does not have any calories, but if you have the habit of adding sugar and cream then it is loaded with calories. it also supresses apettite, so it may not be a bad idea to have one or two cups a day esp when you are feeling hungry and you are thinking of having a regular soda.
