By "war on Christmas", I assume you're speaking of the merchants who last year decided to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" as to not alienate some of their customers?
I don't understand why Christians think Christmas is the only gift-giving holiday this season. I live in an area that has a large Jewish population, and they buy just as much if not more for Hanukkah - why should they give their money to a store that fails to recognize them?
Lucianna - perhaps you should pick up a paper to see that your religion is not the only one in America, and America is not only a Christian country. Geesh.

No one is telling the Christians to not celebrate Christmas--just look at the commercials that are out there right now. The ones who are being told to make their celebrations quiet and private are those who DON'T celebrate Christmas. They go into a store right now, and are told "have a Merry Christmas." Their kids are asked if they have talked to Santa. It is too widely assumed in this country, the country founded on religious freedom and equality, that everyone is Christian.

I wouldn't go that far, but it IS getting a little ridiculous. I mean, after all, it is called CHRISTmas, right? You don't have to be a Christian to give a Christmas card, etc. This is a case of political correctness run amok. Freedom of religious expression is why the Pilgrims came over here in the first place - let the Christians have their holiday.

Christmas is just part of it, examples: in schools, for generations there was Christmas plays, it was Christmas vacation, marry Christmas was the appropriate greeting for the season. now its winter break, winter play, happy holidays. and the use of any music with any reference of religion is now banned. With the USA still being over 90 percent Christians why then is the minority protected against what might be offensive. what about that 90 percent who is offended by the fact their beliefs are trampled on. this is a sad time for America.

Yes, there is not only a war on Christmas, there is a war on Christianity. Going all the way back to the founding fathers of this country, this land was set up on a Christian groundwork. The last few years we have seen a disturbing erosion of these basic beliefs - this includes Christmas. We are so afraid that we are going to offend someone so far as their basic religion, that we compromise our country's core heritage to appease small groups. I am sick of this activity, and I say let these groups go to another country if they don't like our holidays and our heritage. Let them be silent for a change.

Remember that people came to this country for the freedom to believe in the religion of their choice. No ones trying to take Christmas, why are trying to take things away from those that don't believe in what you do?

The first poster should read the newspaper once in awhile.
Now they're saying that we should say "Happy Holidays" rather than Merry Christmas, because it could offend some people.
If those people don't like Merry Christmas, let them ignore us or move.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!!
