Claims that are impossible to prove, like god created the universe and all with in, eternal live, Noah’s ark, the walls of Jericho, people living 300 years old & up wards, Adam & Eve and many many more. Not to say they are impossible, but could it be merely books of law & ethics and that man has played a great roll in foresting what is general believed for the sake of control. If today 90% of the people would say there are no such things as God or Gods, what would be the effects on all the claims made in these books

Clo
You stared out very well, but you misunderstood the part about a claim, A CLAIM, as I claim this as mine, I claim this land in my name because God gave it to me, that type of claim

Noah's ark, people living 300 years and upwards, Adam and Eve are metaphorical things that have been proven wrong by scientific advances.

The walls of Jericho could be explained by an earthquake while the wind was blowing toward the wall.

Eternal life is ambiguous, although the afterlife is expected by Christians.

Yes, I agree, most of the bible is a book of ethics and not a literal document, except for the stories that don't defy the laws of physics terribly, like Jesus and God creating the world (through evolution).

First, I think based on what goes on in the world in the form of indiscriminant sex (forbidden by all relgions except Paganists and Satanists), lying, cheating, gluttony (we are vastly living in an obese world), violence, rape, drunk driving, reckless driving (all of these things are forbidden by most religions) that 90% of the World has little faith or no faith or has lost God or never found God.

Next, once upon a time in the year 1850 it was believed that man would be crushed if he moved faster than 60 miles per hour.

As recent as 1950 people thought going to the Moon was total fiction.

In 1900 there were three dimensions. In 1920 there were four. Today some say there are as many as 21.

God and Jesus said man, except for eteranal life, can be as Gods. We all have the powers within us. We can do what Jesus did, like walk on water.

You've never heard of surface tension? You've never heard Einstein say that a falling brick can stand still or fall upwards in a relativistic senario!

Jesus brought back the dead with a touch. Today we know about CPR.

Ezekiel saw a wheel in the middle of the sky and today we have airplanes. Jacob saw angels walking up an down a ladder and in 1969 we saw men in space suits walk down a ladder and stand on the Moon.

We don't know what lies behind the mysteries in the books. We do know certain people we call "Holy Men" can lower their heart rate to one beat per minute or survive in a cave with only a few grapes for a long period of time.

Obviously some people know things others don't.

I am REALLY glad you are not talking about books from bible-thumping right-wing Jerry Falwell, Ted Haggard "Christians". Here are some of my favorite authors and a title: Frederick Buechner Renita Weems Henri Nouwen The Tao of Pooh Quran The Little Prince Thomas Merton's Seven Story Mountain Why Am I Afraid To Tell You Who I Am by Powell The Life of Dorothy Day The Reluctant Messiah by Bach Any of C.S. Lewis' Books ... they really are not child's tales ...but rich allegories of a spiritual life. Any of the Vedi literature Rabbi Harold S. Kushner Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel Dr. Scott Peck The 12 Steps for Women (even if you do not have an addiction it is a book worth reading) Life is Hello, Life is Goodbye, Rev. I personal have study almost every religion,to find enlightment. But i would have to say your right about the books our just from a man or women with moral ethics that should be followed,i don't dismiss that there is one God but were not the most intellegent beings. As for the effects or the claims,i truly belive this is free will and people(as the 90%)u stated don't practice there right for free will and harm none theroy,so far as enlightment choose what appiles to your life and what you want to belive in gods or god or none it's really up to you.as long as you harm none.practice your right!(some people r sheep)just don't become one and you'll feel more at ease, just a suggestion.

seems like it. The biible if scrutinized thoroughly would never really bring enlightenment. only if you select a certain verse on inspiring story out of it, when it can make a difference.
If it is taken as a singular source, it would only confuse you due to the dueling & opposing views that each books state. A lot of stories will be considered totally flawed due to inconsistency. The gospels themselves vary on their claims on how the nativity story took place.
but in the end, it wouldnt matter that much what are the contents in the bible that doesnt make sense. Only the way it touched your life in one way or the other.

The Bible is the Word of God. The Old Testament is a history book. The new Testament is how God says we should live our lives today. We have free will and can do what we want, but if you want to go to Heaven and have eternal life you need to understand what Jesus did for you.

Are you ready?

Almost all of what the Bible claims can be proven as fact. In fact, there are more inconsistencies in science than there is in the Bible.

1. Evolution
2. Global warming
3. Big Bang theory
4. Fossil record
5. Global vs. regional flood
6. Round earth vs. flat earth

Just to name a few.

Deckape - The entire Bible is full of factual claims too lengthy to list.

The splitting of the Red Sea has been confirmed by science as something that can indeed occur. Sodom & Gomorrah has been discovered by satellite imagery and archaeological digs. Noah's Ark has been spotted on Mt. Ararat in modern day Turkey thanks to satellite imagery. Scientists have proven that a creature can live within the stomach of a large sea mammal for several days (i.e. Jonah). The first civilization was dicovered in Mesopotamia (i.e. Tigris/Euphrates river - Garden of Eden)

These are just to name a few.

Well DECKAPE... sounds like you have already made your decision. Why bother answering.

historical Evedeince. It proves these all happend.

There is an "ark" in turkey. We have dino tracks and man tracks from in TX. Archalogical digs have from the city of Jerico. One archalogic wanted to prove the writer Luke to be wrong. He found a passage in the Book of Acts and went to the site that was desciped.

After his digs, he found evidence as discribed. He report that the writer of the book of Acts was a true historian.
