THE USA IS STILL ABOUT 50 YEARS BEHIND EUROPE WHEN IT COMES TO RELGION. MAYBE 50 YEARS FROM NOW, WE WILL ALSO HAVE FREE, UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, LIKE EUROPE.

Actually the number of agnostics in the united state according to recent studies is 3-9%. This country has always had the lowest percentage. That is from Zuckermans which is extremely accurate. This is a country where majority of the people believe in some form of Christianity.

Larry I have to agree with you on the health care, from my on experience in the last few years having failing health and having no insurance and can't afford cost of the insurance that is out there. As for your question does God exist I will say yes because I am still alive and breathing. For those that say he does not exist tell them to put their hand over there mouth and see how long they will live with out breathing. We do not control our breathing it is automatic who put the control in our bodies we did not do this so God does exist. As the bible says all the different body parts knows it function and it does it. The blue print of our bodies are in writing. Don't make you opinions according to polls they change all the time. If our heart said it was going to stop for a while we would be dead the same if our breath said they same
or our brain say it was going to take a break . All these things prove the designer of the blue print of man and women was God.

That 42% figure is quite high. "According to a study by Barna Research, "roughly 7% of the adult population - approximately 14 million people - describe themselves as atheistic or agnostic. America has more atheists and agnostics than Mormons (by a 3 to 1 margin), Jews (by a 4 to 1 margin) or Muslims (by a 14 to 1 margin)." 2 They further found "that atheists and agnostics are dominated by:

whites (71%),
men (64%),
adults under 35 (51%),
residents of the Northeast and West (56%)."

In at least one area of life, they exhibit strong "family values". According to Barna Research, they have one of the lowest (if not the lowest) divorce rate of any religious group -- much lower than for conservative Christians, for example."

"unsure" would not define an agnositc.
It would more likely fit the title "atheist"

I am also unsure of your poll. I'm sure there are similar polls that would suggest 42% of youth, for example, are on a quest for spiritual awareness, or are leaving the traditional religions of their parents and joining evangelical churches.

My point is, polls and surveys are more often than not an inaccuate reflection of things.
Your percentages here are inflated, and people need to know that results of polls are entirely dependant on the wording of the questions presented.
For example - your poll may have asked "Are you sure that God exists?" and many would answer "no" - however another question may have been "do you attend a church or place of worship on a weekly / monthly basis?" and the answer of the same person may well have been "yes"

also - often times the media will interpret the poll as they see fit. Most media coverage of the poll will interpret the results of only the questions they want to report on, thereby inflating numbers (or reducing them as the case may be) to their will and purpose.

Polls, in my opinion, are not an accurate accounting of the life and times of society in general.

With the development of the Science, people begin to see where lies the truth.

Many people join to a church just to have a social group to participate, specially the poorest.

Bible is not clear, and dont agree with the science many ways.
In my opinion, things said by prayers of some religion do not work. Religion also create things to manipulate people and get money. This seems to be the main problem.

WOW. I'd love to know where you got that statistic. It seems a bit inflated. I know you said "Harris Poll," but do you have a link?

Possibly.
Something interesting- the Bible says that this will happen (people will increasingly deny God). Thought you'd enjoy that little tid-bit Larry! ;-)

even the Agnostics believe in a Higher Power
they just don't know what yet

Edit:
In order for the Health Care to go into effect...You would have to be willing to pay HIGH taxes to cover this
