Ischemia is defined as an interruption in the blood supply to a particular area of the body. In the heart ischemia will often lead to a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Ischemia induced heart attacks account for approximately 20-24% of all mortality in Great Britain.
Whilst it is true that lumped together respiratory diseases will account for a large portion of UK mortality in reality respiratory infection is caused by a large number of pathogens rather than just one disease.
